Facts:

1. Yugiri has a reptilian tail. The root of it even has spiky pointy bits, like a lizard. She is obviously not a Viera.
2. The pointy things on her head are floppy. They are therefor not horns. Ears seems likely, but they could also be ornaments. We don't know yet.
3. ARR has used 'wrong' character models/animations before. (I felt deeply betrayed about Nael.)

Thancred is a Bard. He says so himself. Seems a bit spoony, but what do I know.

Actually, near half of the Scions confirm he's not a bard and his own actions during the associated scene damn him as well. He's a t/Thief. But is he the class or the Job is debatable.

Unless they make Thief a DPS job and Ninja a tank job, which I don't personally like (Ninja's aren't tanks... and were never meant to be tanks in Xi either), then Thief being the base class for Ninja makes sense. Both would probably play too similar to make them separate jobs.

I just took it as him pulling off a job/class change. Yugiri even comments on him suddenly changing fighting styles. Just like everybody else, he can be both a bard and a thief and whatever else. Just not all at once.

Why would you think he's a bard? He uses Daggers and shields, right? I figured he was a Gladiator.

Checking around, I was wrong about shields. He just normally uses the dagger. Still not really bard like.

I'm kinda hoping Yugiri's model is just a preliminary thing. It'd be kind of disappointing if the new race were just Miqo'tes with lizard tails.

Thancred has never had a bow. He's always attacked with throwing daggers. So he isn't a Bard in the technical sense. He's referred to as a bard at some point in the 1.x storyline, but that stuff was put in place before the job system.

My speculation: Thancred is a Thief, and Yugiri is a Ninja. These will be two jobs that branch off of a new class (Scout, Assassin, Rogue, what have you).

In one of the main story quests, he calls himself a Bard. (I didn't take a screenshot, sorry, but it's during the search for the Crystal thieves in preparation for the Leviathan fight.)

Ultimately, he's a weird hodgepodge of things, probably so he can be semi-useful during fights. He uses daggers, one during battle, two during cutscenes, and like most Scions he can heal the player character.

You have me there, damn NPCs pulling off tricks players can't. Like Papalymo and his plate armor gauntlets (which is why I went out of my way to make dated iron plate armor in 1.0). But I think the comment was more aimed at his 'change' of weapons in the scene. Thancred started the fight with a weapon bards can't use, though, so...
