I thought of an idea for the devs~
I mentioned this a few times on some forums in the past, but creating a Disciple of Beasts class would create a whole new discipline around the arts of life in nature and controlling them in battle and taking care of them.
To protect and fight alongside herds and flocks of animals ("pets") from encroaching enemies, while leveling with them together at the same time would be fantastic for diversion among the world and its players.
If anything, an animal handler in Eorzea would most likely use a staff or a bullwhip. You can see Shepherds herding flocks of sheep on some of the faction leve cards (Horn and Hand) with a staff in their hands.

Also, "Mathistien of the Cloven Hoof", the master of Tarbh Uisge (NM Faction Leve Boss at Camp Bloodshore) uses a staff to control and command his giant buffalo ("pet"). He also wears Shepherd clothing hinting to how a FF XIV version of the Beastmaster job may behave.

Shepherds (pet handlers) deal with animals and Leatherworkers are optimized to wear Shepherd clothing, so there is a connection to beginning drawing a line for them into the game.
These are just food for thought, nothing is definite! But just an idea for using pets as a job, like mentioned.
Pets could also be used as Thieves to locate treasure during leves and to steal stuff from other enemies.
In this game, I would like to be able to control multiple animals instead of just one, like in FF XI, but make it a reasonable increase such as 2-3 animals ("pets") under your command at once. At a higher level, a job ability purchased through guild marks or acquired through a Pet Quest could enable you to earn the skill of multiple pet handling or something awesome like that!
New items can be crafted by culinarians to serve as food for Pet Owners to heal their creatures tamed (or bought) in the world. Goldsmiths can create accessories (chokers and bracelets) to equip to your pet as well.
This example is best shown in the 2 NM Faction Leves, Operation: Bloody Scales and Wolfsbane, where the Amalj'aa and Ixali beast tribes equipped their pet Drakes and Wolfs with electrum/mythril chokers/bracelets to increase their attack power and aggressiveness. This is another way they can tie into pre-existing classes.

I can think of sooooooo many more ideas with this subject, but for now, I rather listen to more of what the devs have to say, and the players ideas on here!![]()
