With the wording Bayohne used, it would seem rentals and personal chocobos are getting implemented on 1.19. Hmmm.

As usual I still just can't see summoner being implemented with how things are. The primal don't serve anyone, if anything others serve them. They're not subservient in any way so summoning them to do our bidding would make little sense.

Think man, FINAL FANTASY ... part of the thrill of being a summoner is defeating it in order to gain it's respect. Enough respect to let you harness it's power!
Lore can be bent anyway you want it to be. They are apparently making conj the whm and thaum the blm. . that makes less sense to me than summoning primals lol. Heck, the main story line even says there's a way to summon them if I remember right, it hints to a future SMN job.

Exactly. APPARENTLY. SE haven't even released all the jobs, nor which classes they stem from, so your speculation is invalid, really. All that has been confirmed is that WHM and BLM are jobs that you can branch to, NOT that Conjurer is pigeon-holed as WHM, and Thaumaturge as a BLM.

The difference is class flavor text lore can be changed. It's a bit harder to change the focus and story of a number of our main campaign quests.Lore can be bent anyway you want it to be. They are apparently making conj the whm and thaum the blm. . that makes less sense to me than summoning primals lol. Heck, the main story line even says there's a way to summon them if I remember right, it hints to a future SMN job.
What Ryndael suggested is the only thing that would make sense, and it's FF tradition. Summons being a spell/ability that calls them down to do a single attack before leaving again.

Anybody else notice the garden in front houses quote? Confirmed player housing?

Oh yeah, Yoshida's already mentioned that he wants to do some sort of player housing down the line.
As far as Summoner goes... why must it be a pet class? I loved summoner in FF11, but I always thought that kind of subservience was a bit over the top. And they also got heavily, heavily nerfed because of it.
I'd kinda rather see Summoner as a mage that holds its own without the summons, but can use the primals (as a spell) for burst damage on a long recast.
Take Summoner from FF Tactics for example. I always had Time Mage abilities on it as a sub, so for the most part it went around buffing and debuffing... but when enemies got close enough together... Boom! Bahamut pwnage. Or the same would go for allies when they're in range and Carbuncle/Moogle/Sylph etc.
I realize we have 'time' spells in particular kind of already covered, but that's just an example. It would keep from it having to be a pet class (which the devs keep hinting that they really don't want to do), and it would probably be a ton easier to balance.
Why must summoner even be a class or a job? Why not an ability everyone gets at high level in addition to the "echo"?
Everyone could summon in 6, 7, 8 , 12, 13, so why not in 14?
