If you're going at it as a PLD, make sure both the Zenith sword and shield are equipped. I've been getting them slowly but surely (have 2 in about 8 total hours of grinding). And FC mate spent around 12 hours yesterday and got all 12. He's on my poo list (not really, I'm just jealous he's done).

I find its best that if you don't get anything for awhile to move on to another place. It was like that for me last night I'd farm and area for like an hour but then got one pretty quick when I moved to a new area. It also seems like the hardest drops imo are Central Thanalan, Middle La Noscea and Central Shroud. I mean the reason for these is to populate the areas more for new people so it makes sense I guess to keep people there the longest. Our group found that stuff in Upper high end areas dropped much faster.

Just got my atma in 2 hours with allagan shield equipped.
Regarding this atma thing, i spent half of the day at central grinding low lvl fates and go no atma of the maiden.. went to sorrel haven area did 1 level 35ish fate got it right away.
Maybe drop rates are better with higher level FATES. Just a thought.
Finally got my atma relic today. Grinded for hours. Glad it's over...feel sorry for my alt classes tho xD
Just got the atma wep guys. Can confirm that you need all 12 again to do another weapon.![]()

In all likelihood SE added these atmas in low level areas as FATEs so that new/low level players would have the opportunity to A) be able to complete them and B) see people in the zones.
I remember in FFXI when I saw my first level 75 player and he ran past me in Ghelsba and I thought "Wow that guy's SO cool". If everyone's just standing around Revenant's Toll while the starter zones are completely empty it gives people the illusion that either the game isn't doing well or they're in the wrong area, plus there's the added benefit of being able to ask for help for things (and potentially get new FC/LS members).
As a ffxi player, I'm used to this sort of thing so it doesn't really faze me. Also, I don't mind having something to do that doesn't involve standing around.
not even close, most of them actually dropped an item that you can use right away.
most of the popular ones that can be solo'd weren't EX. people who don't want to camp can still buy Leaping Boots, Emperor's Hairpins, Ochiudo's Kotes, even Kraken Clubs by paying other people to do it for them. and the campers are free to profit and get big bucks for spending that time.
you get none of those things here. and don't even compare this to good EX stuff like Ridill or Defending Ring where you need large groups of people with coordinated kill strategies.
