Nothing we players can use currently uses Astral and Umbral actually, but they did exist in 1.0. Not that the actual element of a given spell means much though.DRK in FF history has been always an HP-absorb/consume DPS with debuffs. Not to mention the Dark element damage. (FF only has the 6 basic ones, missing non-elemental, light and dark).
There is no way a DRG would have any link with a DRK, DRG is a pure DPS with a burst damage style which skills are not Dark Elemental and they don`t have anything HP related by the exception of Power Surge. Now through history all classes have been always being diferent, sometimes a few diferences, other times big diferences (like XI and XIV Dragoon or FF standart Warrior with XIV Warrior) so this is not something that says anything about DRK.
It is just a name, maybe it will be a scythe looking spear.

It was a scythe. Scythes are botanist tools in XIV, and there's very little will for reviving them as a weapon for Dark Knight. Being that scythes are polearms (insofar as weapon classifications go for improvised peasant weapons) where that subclass is used by Dragoon, it seems most appropriate to re-use that specific weapon as a Dragoon weapon.in FFXI, Liberator, was a Mythic Weapon acquired by Dark Knights, however it appears that this is the new weapon being released from Dragoon.
If Spears(Fisher) and Polearms(Dragoon) existed, why not Sickle(botanist) and Scythe(Dark knight)?

why would DRG replace DRK? both can be jobs for LNC, if Liberator is important for DRK.
they'd use different stats, like SMN<>SCH. but *Same* wep.
I would like to see a new weapon other than great sword on Dark knight and the normal scythe.
Would be really cool to use these and have a good animation for them.

I'm still assuming that later on each class will have dualism of seperate jobs. With each class having 2/3 of the role types. Seeing as though ACN breaks into a DPS or a Healer role, it would make sense that if in the future Marauder got access to DPS (Dark Knight) and the alternative left with Warrior being the tank subset of the class.
If anything, I could see Lancer splitting to be a Healer via Dancer. You never know. Of course the preferred thing would be that more classes are added so that new abilities come into play.
I'd love to see the FFT method of expanding the jobs available via a requirement system like 50WAR + 50DRG = Dark Knight class available.

not every MMO has a class which uses scythes... but a great sword? nothing special if you ask me... -> boring
dark knights need scythes as a weapon:
that gives him a more "dark touch" you know? great swords are for sword masters or any other boring standard class..
