As per patch notes, The following items can now be discarded:

Saw of the Luminary / Hammer of the Luminary / Mallet of the Luminary / Gavel of the Luminary / Knife of the Luminary / Needle of the Luminary / Alembic of the Luminary / Pan of the Luminary / Pick of the Luminary / Axe of the Luminary / Rod of the Luminary

Even if you've invested several hours of time/gil into obtaining these golden e-peens (because honestly 10% less durability loss is kind of a joke) at best your luminary's will become nothing more than a "glamour" item.

I was hoping SE would raise the ilvl for luminarys to match the new ilvl 70 crafting tools, but alas they choose to slap crafters open-handed across the eyes yet again.

LOL at your last sentence! I feel the pain i just got my luminary for goldsmith last week and this is terrible news! At least we can glamour it but yes this really sucks.

Is it a slap in the face that the combat classes get new gear that's better than their old "achievement" gear for their new challenges?

Everyone knows that better gear is going to come out eventually. It would be absurd for people with Allagan or Relics or whatever to just automatically get the better version. Or maybe more apt is the hunting-log completion ring automatically getting bumped to i110 with this patch. That's ridiculous.

Honestly, I would love to see a "relic treatment" of our crafting/gathering tools. What if you could take your primary (or whatever) tools and improve them by doing crafting/gathering quests? Or be able to "meld" tools into the luminary or vice-versa? Instead of throwing away tools why not implement ways to keep improving them like our relic weapons?
