Targeting Problems

Recently encountering target problems - Not all of the time, but some times I can't focus on an enemy that's right in front of me. Every other option gets highlighted if I scroll, but the one right in front of me wasn't an option. Sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't. Two specific cases:
1. In CT last night, I was asked to DPS boss in the second room. As a Sum, I always caste Eye for Eye on tank, then switch to enemy - I was able to cast E4E but then couldn't get back to the boss. Eventually after much button smashing somehow I landed back on him.
2. As a tank in Brayflax I switched target from some ads but couldn't get back on boss after ads were gone.
Doesn't happen all the time, but it's very frustrating. Any idea what i messed up here?

Happens to me all the time. I'll hit tab and nothing. Click on the boss... still nothing. Move a little to the left or right then it works.... Sometimes.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some setting I may have played with and forgot I did (very possible). Also in town, when highlighting others to see gear and such more often than not, when I cycle through to the person standing right in front he's the last one, not the first. You'd think it would be the other way around

That is actually a setting. Something like closest first but it doesn't always work the way you'd expect it to.

I can't imagine what would be causing LOS issues in CT (other players shouldn't), but it's possible this is a case of the camera LOS untargetable thing. You can't target something whose hit box is obstructed (from the camera's POV, not your character's) by another object. For example, when Garuda jumps and lands, I can't target her until I move my camera around from behind the pillar I'm hiding behind so that my camera can "see" Garuda's hit box. This is why so many people have trouble with the level 20 LNC quest; the hit box on the pile of bones is tiny, and the graphic of the bones themselves actually obstructs it from some angles.

The camera is generally the deciding factor with targeting things. Whatever targeting method you're using (tab key, D-pad, etc.), where the camera is pointed & what's in its field of view are just as influential (if not more) as what your character is facing.
