Final Chocobo Fantasy - The Next Big Kweh Thing

Greetings Final Fantasy fans! Let's discuss all possible future enhancements to the game that are Chocobo related. We currently have Chocobos available and somewhat functional in Eorzea, however the current implementation leaves quite a bit to be desired.

The Chocobos in FFXIV ARR right now live up to these basic attributes of the classic Final Fantasy Chocobo. However, you don’t have to read too far into the lore to discover that there is room for improvement.

A comic relief variant is the Fat Chocobo (or Chubby Chocobo) character; an extremely obese yellow or white chocobo that can eat the player's items for storage.

Those players who own a Collectors Edition of the game are about to have access to the Fat Chocobo mount, which will introduce an additional Chocobo mount option (for some players). We really need more variety and customization options across the board that every player can have access to.

The current Companion Rank system for our Chocobo's is rather limited and rigid. Ranking up a Chocobo to unlock new skills and attributes is very hard. At the moment it lacks the ability to even respec ranks!

We really need a better way to manage the development of our Chocobo companions. What we need is the ability to raise them.

    Chocobo Raising

In this translated Game Watch pre-Patch 2.1 interview, Yoshi P talks about plans for adding Chocobo Raising to the game:

A Chocobo raising system is the key to properly expanding both the variety and the abilities of our companion birds.

    [Placeholder for mentioning Chocobo instances]

Ummmmmm they are adding breeding in and they've said it would be tied to personal housing. In FFXI breeding is when they added the other colors. I expect the same to happen here.

There's a variety of things that can be done using chocobo lore from the games.

    Obtaining Materia
In Final Fantasy VII, chocobos can create and cough up Materia: the Choco/Mog Summon Materia (whose summon features a chocobo and a moogle, or a rare alternate attack with a Fat Chocobo) is obtained from the chocobos at the Chocobo Farm, while the Contain Materia is obtained by giving the white chocobo in Mideel some Mimett Greens, then tickling it behind the ears.
Catching Chocobos - could be useful for a more diverse breeding system. Catching them and breaking them, as you have to do in VII as well.
Around the world there are chocobo tracks where wild chocobos may appear in random battles.
    Racing Chocobos
This is featured in several games. It would be an easy addition here.

I don't mind breeding, but maybe a few other things.

    * More barding

    * Skill point respec

    * Feather dyes

    * Single player + chocobo and/or two player + two chocobo dungeon instances

    * Chocobo carriages, allowing transportation of multiple people on a single transport and maybe add a mobile access point to the company chest.

    * Allow chocobos in cities, at least in Companion mode

    * Let us have a minion out when our Chocobo is in Companion mode (I want a pic of me my new Mog minion and Choco all together)

    * Chocobo emotes for them and us (like petting)

Besides breeding for our personal housing, some other possibilities are:

-LARGE scale content where we get to fight on chocoback.

-There's the chocobo hot/cold minigame from IX. Maybe we can use our chocobos when doing treasure map hunts for new/rare/unique items?

-Of course, there's racing - either with players or betting on npcs. This would be awesome to have in the gold saucer.

-We also need a side-quest line involving a chocobo eater!

The following link is like a 30 minute read.

This is what they originally had planned for chocobo's before 2.0 came out. The list includes dungeon chocobo's, chocobo leve quests, chocobo breeding, chocobo digging, chocobo Gold Saucer racing, chocobo respec, Fat Chocobo Mount, Fat Chocobo Primal fight, etc. It's a really good read as its highly detailed and its interesting to see some of this this stuff (that was posted 9 months ago) slowly being added to our current version (ie. Chocobo outfit, Fat Chocobo, breeding in our houses etc.)

Lets not forget chocobo knight was a Job in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the rift.

perhaps it could introduce a better way of leveling your choco companion as well as giving new role options (remembering your chocobo can heal, dps, and tank?(badly tank)). although those roles in FFA2 were affected by the colour of the chocobo the knight had.

I'd like if they made it so Chocobos don't take up a spot in your party. For example, you can enter the DF with your Chocobo out, but it will not go into the dungeon with you. I'd like to actually be able to level my chocobo while waiting for queue into a dungeon, because right now you cannot do this, which makes Chocobo leveling horribly inconvenient.

I'd also like the ability to do what we're about to do with the retainers, send our chocobos out on 'missions' to find things for us for a couple of hours or while we're offline, with their rank determining the odds of success for each mission. Each mission would gain them more experience towards rank, with the amount dependent on mission level and type. That way if we want to dungeon, we can send the chocobo on a mission and not worry about it not getting ranked up. There's so much to improve in this game with chocobos, the sky is the limit!

NO. lol - no dyes, the breeding should be like FFVII, where you breed different qualities or genuses to create colored chocobos with special abilities. An idea I've had and posted in a couple different places:

    Blue Chocobo

Mounted Trait: 10% increase in speed from Company Issue Chocobo
Mounted Ability: ChocoStealth: Allows you to pass by monsters that are the same or lower level than you. Duration 30s | CD 2m
Companion Trait: Increases natural MP regeneration of all party members by 50%
Companion Ability: ChocoBreeze: Restores 10% of all party member's MP (120s CD)

    Green Chocobo

Mounted Trait: 10% increase in speed from Company Issue Chocobo
Mounted Ability: ChocoSprint: Greatly increases the speed at which your chocobo can run. Duration 19s | CD 1m
Companion Trait: Increases natural HP regeneration of all party members by 50%
Companion Ability: ChocoGift: Restores 15% of all party member's HP (CD 200s)

    Black Chocobo

Mounted Trait: 15% increase in speed from Company Issue Chocobo
Mounted Trait: You are immune to changes in your movement speed (stop, slow, etc)
Mounted Ability: ChocoSprint: Greatly increases the speed at which your chocobo can run. Duration 19s | CD 1m
Companion Trait: Increases natural TP regeneration of all party members by 10%
Companion Ability: ChocoGift: Restores 300TP to all party members (CD 200s)

    White Chocobo

Mounted Trait: 15% increase in speed from Company Issue Chocobo
Mounted Ability: ChocoAtone: Instantly erases any enmity assigned to you while mounted (Causes you to be unable to dismount for 10s) (CD 1m)
Mounted Ability: ChocoSprint: Greatly increases the speed at which your chocobo can run. Duration 19s | CD 1m
Companion Trait: Increases maximum hit points and mana points by 4% to all party members
Companion Ability: ChocoHoly: Restores 5% of all party members HP and MP, as well as doing a 200 potency attack to all enemies within 8y (CD 240s)

That picture makes me unreasonably sad for that chocobo. I am going to hug my dog for 15 minutes when I get home.
