I don't see why not, as long as you couldn't go backwards (select Pass and then choose Need/Greed).
Or better yet, allow trading on drops within the duty and bind them upon leaving duty.
That wouldn't be very fair in pugs. Say you have 5 people who are friends and have 3 random people filling in. The 5 could all need or greed regardless if they needed it so they could trade it to a friend and screw the 3 random people.
The chance of that happening is probably very small, and even if it does happen on occasion, the benefits outweigh the bad by a lot.
