There is a reason why I sort my healers to the bottom of the party list. To easily see their MP. Too bad I can't see other ppls TP, I''d probably use Paeon more.
You're one of the good ones. I salute you and give you all my commendations! As a bard, I sing when it's needed. 90% of my singing time is Foe Requiem. The only time I hit ballad is when I see whm/sch mp hit 1600~, when a healer dies, or when a healer has to spam raise. Usually by the time someone asks, I've already put the song up. I wish people would just leave us bards alone! :-P
I don't understand this. When I play BRD its actually a pleasure to use my songs to support the party when I can. Its certainly more fun than constant pew pew anyway.

Ballad really should never have to be used. Its only if people are making mistakes like dying a lot when they shouldn't be, or healers are doing too much overhealing. People should avoid making mistakes that put themselves in a situation where ballad must be used.

I usually only ever use foes if there's another bard in the party, because that way he can play Mage's Ballad if the healers MP drops below 2k. That's just me being overly cautious though
As a healer... I really would like to know what people do with their MP. Unless there is a boss fight lasting more than 5 mins where you constantly have to AOE heal, then ballad should never be used. Use shroud when ever it is up, use aetherflow whenever it is up. As a bard, I watch every buff the healers use and will refuse to sing to healers who don't know how to use MP recovery moves.
I do the same thing with putting healers at the bottom of my party list. Ballad when it looks like it's needed, any other song upon request. I've rarely had a need to use BV, though.
When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
While we're at it:
Dear tanks, use Shield Oath when your DPS completely outgears you.
Dear healers, use Holy when nobody needs heals in mobs.
Dear melee DPS, use your Limit Break.
I know this topic isn't aimed at me because I sing like there is no tomorrow. I love BRD and was singing MB the moment I got it. Had a SCH in our party tell me "Not yet!" after it sounded like he wanted me to. lol Square can nerf our dmg when another ranged dps that is supposed to deal more dmg is released, but please buff our songs. Both in range and effectiveness, give us a couple more to use, even.
