Was going to start buying some but should i wait until after the update?

SE has stated that philo mats will now be obtainable through other means, and they listed as examples treasure map hunting, dungeon drops, and Grand Company points. It also would not shock me to learn that they may be gathered by Botanists and Miners from new higher-level gathering points.

Bottom line is, my prediction is that the value of these items is going to drop through the floor. My recomendation is to buy up Philo mats now and try to sell them while folks are still paying decent money for them. OR, hang on to your Philo tomes, wait until the update, convert all your Philo tomes into Myth tomes through whatever exchange rate SE plans to implement, then buy the new Myth tome crafting items everyone is predicting will be introduced to craft the iLvl 90 craftable gear.

Bear in mind, all this is pretty much just speculation. It is, however, what I believe is going to happen.

The bigger question is will philo mats be useful after the update. If we can make ilvl90 gear from myth tomes, which will be as easy to accumulate as philo mats are now, why would anyone bother buying ilvl70 gear? The only possible reason I could see would be to spiritbond for tier IV materia.

Philo mats are still used in some 2* furniture, and there's no guarantee they won't also be used in i90 recipes. A lot of gear synths are the current material "tier" plus the next one down. Like say, Felt with Wool. Or Vanya with Felt. Or... mythmat with Vanya? Who knows.

Well looked at prices yesterday for philo mats and they were super low so decided to hold onto my tomes and get whatever conversion out of them.
I was late on the boat i guess as at one point i do recall mats selling for some nice gil.
Basically we are saving up for housing and wanted to make quicker gil.
