    Participation could not be confirmed.

Is there any way we could get some kind of notification on the desktop (even if it's just the program icon in the task bar flashing) when the a duty finder party is ready.

For DPS waiting 30 minutes+ for a duty finder party, checking forums/twitter/anything else on the web whilst waiting for a duty finder party is the only thing that can keep us sane. However unless you have a second screen this is a very very bad idea because you can guarantee that the second you hit alt-tab the party you have been waiting for for 30 minutes+ will instantly fill up and you will get withdrawn from the duty.

Current off peak duty finder times are completely against the reason of the duty finder, which was designed for people who wanted to find a party quickly, not caring about who they party with. The biggest problem with the duty finder is wait times, particularly with DPS, maybe people don't want to craft or gather whilst waiting, for them there is nothing they can do except stand around for 30 mins+ something needs to be done to either lower these wait times or have some desktop notification, so we can at least browse the web whilst waiting on the DF.

Why don't you just enable FFXIV to play sounds while it's not the active window? The chime is pretty loud.

You could set the game so it doesn't mute sound when it's in the background and listen for the ding. You can also set your game to borderless windowed mode and shrink your internet browser so you can still see the game and watch for the notification too.

These are all workarounds, I tend to play the game in my living room where people are watching TV, so the only way enabling sounds when the game is minimized would work is using headphones, and unless I really need to I don't really like playing with headphones.

A simple desktop notification (or flashing icon) would be a much better solution, also if you think about the bigger picture, if a deaf player is playing then the sounds are a none option.

I have sound enabled with XIV on background and watch youtube videos while waiting for DF to pop. Dunno about your hearing, but the duty chime always managed to override the movie's sound to me. The only couple times I didn't notice DF window's pop was when I was in a whole other room such as bathroom or kitchen.

What the post you quoted was saying, was other people are watching TV, and hearing background sounds from FFXIV will really annoy them, it's not about not being able to hear the chime.

    >.> I'm just going to say it.

XIV sounds annoying people watching tv? Move the computer into another room. Problem solved.

Workarounds to your problem not the game's problem. There doesn't need to be a solution because it's not actually an issue.

Granted this is also an issue for players who are both blind and deaf.

The hostility really isn't needed here.

I very much appreciate how Rift flashes the taskbar icon when something happens in the game and you're not tabbed into it - such as entering combat, getting a party invite or a whisper, the dungeon queue popping, etc. It's a very simple thing and quite useful.

That came off as hostile? Was it the italics? I tend to take more provocation to be truly hostile towards someone. And I did offer solutions to his problem originally to be fair.

Either way, the problem is not that the game isn't telling him something. It's that he's not paying attention.

Like if you were talking to me and I wasn't listening. And you take offense to me not listening but, I tell you to just speak louder. It's not your problem, it's mine.

I don't mean to say the feature wouldn't be nice. But it's not an issue or a problem or a design flaw and shouldn't be treated as such. And no it was not directly described as such, but he said "solution." You don't look for solutions to suggestions. They answer problems. Problems are bad. Perhaps his words should have been chosen better.
