Controller becoming unresponsive periodically

Hello All,

Apologies if this has been covered because I have read others posting about this elsewhere, but I wasn't able to find a solution on the forums. The issue I am having is at roughly 30-60 second intervals my wired xbox 360 controller becomes unresponsive, as if I'm holding in whatever button I was last pressing. This wasn't occurring for me until a day or so ago and it only happens on one of my computers.

Is this a common issue that has been addressed? Here are things I've tried:

Reinstalled the controller drivers.

Calibrated the controller both in game and using the controller software.

Tried using different USB ports.

Tried different games.

The issue is certainly only happening while playing FFXIV.

If anyone has a solution link to another thread where this has been brought up please send me that way. Thank you!

I have a similar problem today. My controller works fine on the login screen but has no effect on the title screen so I am unable to access the game.

Hmm that sounds like a completely different problem from what I'm experiencing. My controller works perfectly everywhere but it just "hangs" every so often as if I'm spamming a button. For instance if I'm opening the map at the instant it happens it will repeatedly open and close the map as if I had a turbo controller spamming that button for about 1-2 seconds, then it stops. It's very frustrating. Does anyone know of a way to like delete a file or something from my FFXIV that might reset my controller profile?

Same problem has OP. I'm using a PS2 controller connected to my PC. This is ridiculous.

Yeah that is different. The first time I logged in I was able to see my character, I pressed R2 and the cross hotbar remained highlighted even after i let go. I had to use the "home" button on the controller to exit the game as I couldn't input any commands. When I did a search your post seemed the closest to my problem.
This sucks! If its just me it may be ages before it gets addressed.

I'm having similar problems. This just started happening recently for me; as in maybe a week or two ago. I'm using an Xbox 360 controller with the wireless PC adapter.

Since it's wireless, I thought the batteries were dying, or some other wireless signal was interfering, but after trying different batteries, a different controller, and re-positioning the wireless adapter, I found out the problem is just with FFXIV -- other games on my PC work just fine.

So frustrating. I'm really hoping this gets resolved soon.

I am having the same issues with two separate Xbox 360 wired controllers, one an actual Microsoft one, the other third-party. I had the issue about a week and a half ago and fully updated all of my drivers through Microsoft Update, which seemed to alleviate the issue with no concerns, but then it came back again over the last couple of days. Basically, every 10-15 seconds my controller "locks" in one direction, which bars me from entering any other commands and causes me huge aggravation and annoyance.

Could it be possible that this is an artifact of the last maintenance? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the controller driver, as well as disabling and re-enabling my USB controllers - no dice. I'm on a Samsung laptop running Windows 8, and I cannot even find drivers on the Samsung site - there isn't even an option for the model number of my laptop.

If there's any way at all that this is a server issue, can someone please look into this? I'm enjoying playing with a gamepad quite a bit and having these issues is really making me rethink playing the game.

EDIT: Used both controllers with multiple games through Steam, no issues whatsoever. Seems like it must be a FFXIV server-side issue, otherwise why would my installed drivers work fine with other games?

I'm just going to guess this is am FFXIV client-side bug that got introduced with a recent game update. I kind of doubt it's a server-side thing; your client is processing joystick input and communicating character position data and such to the server, but I doubt it's sending anything as fine-grained as joystick axes offsets.

Plus, I also play on my PS3 and everything is just peachy there. The issue seems to be limited to joysticks on PC in FFXIV.

Hopefully this gets sorted out soon though one way or another.

Is there any word on this? I know it's not common for Square Enix staff to reply here, but I'm really hoping this problem is addressed. I've stopped playing on PC because the gamepad responsiveness drops so often; it's just so frustrating to try to play.

Same here. What's really frustrating is that periodically it will work perfectly for a few hours - just about no problems whatsoever besides a little lag. Perhaps it could be my controller going out, but I have had no issues whatsoever with controller lag on any of the 10+ steam games I play with the controller - I don't just mean less issues, I mean no issues at all.

It's really frustrating to not know if I'll be able to play based on whether or not the gamepad decides to work, and it's REALLY hard for me to say its the gamepad going out when it works 100% of the time with everything else.

Could we get an answer, a response, something?
