Basement will the same size as the first floor. As for an attic, given some of the cottage roof shapes you wouldn't have much of an attic, besides I prefer vaulted ceilings over an attic.

An attic for S house also provides stairs, so I can view the small room from a higher level or play with the stairs, actually not really concern the extra space from it. Ofcoz I mean having both basement and attic for S house ^^

Well just looked, yes there is a basement... but original first floor still the same size... lol wth? I feel misled once again.
The way I understood it small house was being made a little bigger plus basement added. Instead it appears small house got bigger by addition of a basement. That said one of your side windows becomes the window in the stairwell.

Likely, the height of the houses was already taken for consideration by SE and the landscape will be ruined if the small houses have a 2nd floor. I actually think it's good to have a basement instead.
The point is the outlook of a S house has a 2nd floor with windows, look likes a beautiful bedroom.
They should make the S House with a flat roof which you can stand on or put something on if there is no 2nd floor inside, or remove the windows of 2nd floor from the outlook.
Of course basement is better than 2nd floor, but no 2nd floor conflicts with the outlook, IMO both should be existed^^

To me, the second floor seems more like an attic space. And given the shape of small houses, I think it'd be a pain to set up furniture in there. With how tall some of the furniture is the possible clipping would be pretty bad, let alone the actual amount of space you may have to work with. I'd rather keep the basement and just let the upstairs remain a mystery =P

In Tudor times you would only have to pay for the price of the land the house was built on, so to get more space for your money people would do this.
not sure if i would like my house like that lol.

So my small house has a basement now, yeah? So where is it? When I go inside, everything is the same as before the patch, no stairs, no hatch or ladder, nothing to indicate it exists except the "Cellarage" option in the "Remodel Interior" menu. How do I get into it?

Make sure a bookcase or cupboard isn't blocking the doorway to the stairs - it should be in far-right corner from the entrance.

Thanks for the speedy reply! That was exactly the problem. After you mentioned it here, I looked and could barely see the outline of the doorframe above the armoire. Never would've noticed it. Thanks a billion!
