    Glamour question for the devs

Was there a reason that glamors were limited to gear that is equitable by your job only? I get the level restriction, but I have a harder time understanding why I can't equip the pants and boots from my leatherworking set on a healer job? Especially since they would look good with some of my other gear for scholar.

For the vanity system to really be a vanity system we need to be able to mix and match where we can. I would also point out snowman suits and bikini's are equipable by all jobs, so you will see people tanking in a bikini, and it seems sort of pointless to me to restrict gear based on class or type.

Both pieces (stat base and appearance projection) need to have a point of overlap in their class requirements.

Seasonal, Special Event, DOL, DOH, and most DOM gear are all generally considered "All Classes" except once you get into the 50's ranges. That means their appearances can be projected on any (higher level) base you want. DRG/LNC gear and GLA/PLD/MAR/WAR gear will remain mutually exclusive to one another, so you can't dress up one as the other with their specialized requirements.

It doesn't work as well the other way around, and you probably wouldn't want to do it that way anyway. In the end, you are always 'wearing' something that you could always wear, but wouldn't feasibly be wearing because it simply didn't have appropriate performance you need for your class at that level.

Items equip-able only by disciples of war (such as a harness and subligar) can not be equipped by a disciple of magic, and vise versa.

As Zourin said, gear equip-able by "All Classes" will be able to be used for vanity, you will be able to mix and match gear like the snowman head, cascadier body, and RSE (level 1 race specific equipment) legs, hempen halfgloves, and valentine's day shoes together, or what have you on any job. But class/job exclusive gear is only "glamour-able" by that class/job, so you won't see any Dragoons running around with Black Mage AF1, or Bards in Monk AF.

EDIT: I'm not sure if vanity will appear in dungeons/fights/instances though, so you may or may not see a tank tanking Titan in a bikini.

While I appreciate the polite explanations I already understand how it works. I am asking why they limited it that way as it seems a bit pointless to me given the absurd options that people can use even within the system as it is outlined. I'd personally rather have a system that allowed me freedom to mix and match, and I don't really care if someone with drg af wants to wear it on his blm even if it looks silly, so I am wondering the reasoning behind it.

Given the nature of the armory system I can understand not having a blm running around with a spear.

And if our tank can't tank Titan in his snowman suit he is going to be very sad.

It is more about why favored class/optimal rank got replaced with required class/rank, but i think it fit here

I agree with the sentiment in the OP. The class/job restriction on glamours is completely arbitrary and I wish it would go away.

I agree with not letting healers wear tank gear, and vice versa. However, I wish I could equip my lv 50 botany gear on my healer. Hopefully, sometime in the future, there will be special event clothing similar to it. I WANNA LOOK LIKE A HIPPY ALL THE TIME, DANGIT!

Maybe we should petition for All Class statless gear that looks similar to crafting/gathering AF? /wishfulthinking

I could be wearing my ALC set on BLM and pretend I'm a state alchemist (dyed my ALC set into FMA colors... /fanboy)

What's the difference between a tank wearing a healer robe and a tank wearing BTN AF? I see none. Hell, what's the difference between a tank wearing an Allagan Healing Tunic and a tank wearing an "All Classes"-tagged cloth robe? Again, I see none.

The current system and restrictions are completely arbitrary and meaningless. Everyone should be able to glamour everything, period.

Actually you made me think of Snow in XIII who was your tank character, but whose armor is a cloth overcoat.
