game controller or m/k for a casual player...

...with no intention of tweaking my set up with macros at the moment?

I seriously just want to level up to 15 first before I learn to optimize my HUD etc, BUT I realized it takes a while to get used to the default set up using a game controller.

my gaming skills are average (passable at normal mode sort) despite having played MMOs for 11 years and basically, I'm used to the good ol' mouse & keyboard.

will I survive or do I really have to customize my keys?

    please help.

If you're used to a certain way of playing, play it that way. I know a lot of people say you absolutely need to have macros and customized things, but I've rarely used any except for custom emotes.

I also play keyboard only. No mouse for me, unless I need to tell my fairy to go somewhere or I need to click on that one superbomb in Titan Ex without having to tab through a million targets.

The default keybinds make a lot of sense. This game is really easy to control, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I've used a mouse/KB for every game for years. I've TRIED to get into using a game pad of some kind but I just can't get the feel of it. I'm always moving my hand around my keyboard and I think i do pretty well.

For casual play, anything will do. I personally like the gamepad in that I can sit back on my couch and play the game on my TV. I play 7/9 jobs at various end-game levels and have never found a use for macros besides lazy crafting. I thought I was used to playing with keyboard and mouse but this game made me seriously question that. The gamepad just feels so fluid and comfortable. I'm also on Leviathan so if you have questions about how I set things up, send me a tell around 7pm Central.

Using a control setup that you are comfortable with is more important than what that setup actually is.

This game offers a good amount of customization in that regard so go nuts with whatever allows you to play your best.

    to everyone who replied: thanks!

@Lemon8or, I agree on the fluidity part. at first I was expecting to get frustrated because the cross bar seemed intimidating, but I surprised myself for not getting my toon fall off cliffs (not that you can during the tutorial part), until I entered the battle field and died :P

I guess this confirms I should stick to m/k first since I'm more familiar with it then definitely customize my control settings later
