Real Life > FFXIV
Nah..... like most animes, i guess it will end with a lot of chapters full of naked miqo'tes in hot springs...

Ok, i'm in :3
While a FFXIV anime could be good (anything would be better than Final Fantasy: Unlimited or whatever it was called). I fear it would either be annoyingly melodramatic, or it would try to be comedic, and like most comedic fantasy/action animes, about mid way through will have a bizarre and sudden tonal shift to somber and melodramatic and wallows in it till the inevitable "upbeat" sequel bait ending where they introduce "the next generation of adventurers/Heros/magical sky pirates or whatever that never actually comes to fruition or ever shown outside Japan"
I don't think the OP is asking for an 'anime based off FFXIV', but rather wants to see references from anime in FFXIV. In which case, given the fact there's already tons of pop-culture references in the game from everything from The Simpsons to the music of Bob Dylan, a few anime references would seem almost understated.
Besides, one might think the SCH AF being very much Japanese school uniform-inspired ('sailorfuku') and the miqo'te race as generic anime references which are already in the game.
I think you mean "lore-based anime?"
"Gun Dam Magitech"
"Beleve it!"
"Steiner's Gate"
"Attack on Titan (Impossible)"
"Code Grease: A Gentleman's guide to Strawberry Rubber Fruit?!"

To be honest, I bet in the Japanese client, many of the references ARE to animes, song lyrics, etc . That are popular in Japan, what you're talking about is a localization issue. To the vast majority of English speaking players, a reference to the Rolling Stones, or "Back to the Future" will be more readily understood than a referance to Polysics or "Maken-Ki! Battling Venus" ( which I just looked up and it looks baffling)I don't think the OP is asking for an 'anime based off FFXIV', but rather wants to see references from anime in FFXIV. A XIV based anime? Nah, it'd probably end up a ~12 episode series and not be that interesting. At least judging from how the actual XIV is >.> Only a few months, don't remember half of it.
Now! I'd get behind an XI based anime. I could see that being great, with as amazing as the storylines were. 9 years and I still remember all of it.
Also, incoming hate from people who have never played XI / quit because they had to put time/effort into something lol >.>
I think the derplander and party from the cgi would make a good anime a La monster hunter manga style. Adventurers doing quest and killing epic things, but no main hero or op main character it's all within the games lore and the players only have powers the player can access. So yeah more like monster hunter manga and less ff unlimited which is the worst anime I've ever seen.
