this was also the first thing that came to my mind when i read the topicI'm sorry to burst one of the usual bubbles inflated by just another that would like for a developer to cater JUST to their playstile, and to say a big "screw you" to everyone else that might enjoy something different, but...
You can solo to end game in wow. It didn't kill it.
Quite obviously that's not the problem.

I pretty much agree with everything the OP said. Maybe not only "solo to endgame", but the combination of everything said and durability/repair is killing it for me at least.
Um, yeah it does. lol
From a business perspective all that matters is money. Yet WoW both rakes in the money AND has the largest playerbase of any MMO on the market - past OR present. Mind you, I don't like WoW myself either, but I am not so naive as to delude myself into believing it isn't a shining success.
wrong. The game is a mess because it was nowhere near finished when it was released. You're kidding yourself if you think a few solo-friendly options is what's hurting this game more than anything else. (WoW being probably the most solo friendly MMO on the market is making a bloody fortune, so I somehow would think your logic is indeed flawed here.)
the fundementals of the game are flawed. it could have came out with 100 levels, 45 zones, 1110 more items, chocobos, and more monsters but it would not have mattered. when you have 90% of the player subscriptions quit playing within like a month or two when the game came out that clearly says that they did not even bother advancing their characters further to explore past the starter zones, despite the game being free.
the only ones left playing are the the diehard fanboys who contribute nothing towards "fixing" the game since they are happy with the way it is.
People are failing to realize that making this game solo unfriendly is XI biggest downfall and the lack of players(which also made partying harder until lvl sync)... People need OPTIONS in an MMO. Partying should be the best and most rewarding way to level but not the ONLY. Not everyone has the time to just get on and party everyday or the days they are able to play. Why name this game FFXIV if it will be another FFXI? in that case give me my lv90 drg back make him look shiny and high detailed and call this game ffxi-2.
Uh, if the game had that much content to begin with - chocobo riding, more items, higher level cap, and a loooot more zones to explore, as well as more mob diversity.. People would not have quit as quickly as they did, or perhaps at all. The game has very little content, virtually none. You are very mistaken if you think the lack of content isn't the number one problem in this game. (Yes it has other problems too, but I never denied that - you simply chose to give me a knee jerk response rather than properly interpreting the meaning of the word UNFINISHED)wrong.

i'm sorry to burst YOUR bubble but YOUR playstyle ("that something different you mentioned) has already been fulfilled...and it cost the devs their jobs! the natural progression for the game is to go back to it's roots.I'm sorry to burst one of the usual bubbles inflated by just another that would like for a developer to cater JUST to their playstile, and to say a big "screw you" to everyone else that might enjoy something different, but...

Uh, I am completely positive that Not-Even-Last-Gen implementation is what really killed this game, OP. Or was it ever alive to begin with.
This is an MMO, in the year 2011. Leveling should not be the hardest part about an MMO. Leveling has never been the hardest part of any good RPG. Leveling is not content. Content is Content. Party-grinding is not hard, challenging, impressive, or even additive to the actual game in any way (although it does help the 'business' if you would be so interested).
TLDR - Boring battle systems, Not-So-Dynamic-and-Next-Gen content, and technical flaws are the things that are keeping this game from taking off. That being said, the story-telling is alright (but certainly not excellent by single-player FF standards... but this is an MMO after all).

A translation of this thread in common english:
"SE! You need to cater only to ME and MY playstyle!!! Screw everyone that dares to enjoy something different from ME!!! The game sucks and is dead because you didn't listen only to ME!!! If everyone else but ME quits this game it will still be a success! ME ME ME ME ME!!!"
