    A Study in Fish

fishing for gil, choice of bait
hello all, I have been looking for the best way to make some gil from my fisherman. recently I have been fishing up red coral and blacklip oysters and selling them. so I thought why not find the best way to do this and share it.
so I did a little experiment to see which bait works best at fishing up the most HQ coral and oysters. here are the findings:

my equipment; lvl 50 fisherman (ilvl 47), using halcyon rod and fishing AF gear. my gathering was 259, perception 201. I generally did the fishing in the same weather to control for that, so no rain, usually only in daylight. fishing location is reaver hide in western la noscea. generally fishing attempts were around 125.

    1- yumizono bait; lominsan anchovy 23 18%
    lominsan anchovy HQ 5 4%
    merlthor goby 26 20%
    merlthor goby HQ 7 5%
    red coral 24 19%
    red coral HQ 4 3%
    blacklip oyster 28 22%
    blacklip oyster HQ 9 7%

total 126, 51% of which are useful fish (oysters and coral)

2- northern krill bait; lominsan anchovy 17 14%
    lominsan anchovy HQ 7 6%
    merlthor goby 21 17%
    merlthor goby HQ 7 6%
    rock lobster 3 2%
    rock lobster HQ 2 2%
    red coral 35 28%
    red coral HQ 5 4%
    blacklip oyster 24 19%
    blacklip oyster HQ 3 2%

total 124; 53% of which are useful

    3- Glowworm bait; lominsan anchovy 23 18%
    lominsan achovy HQ 8 6%
    merlthor goby 33 26%
    merlthor goby HQ 6 5%
    red coral 20 16%
    red coral HQ 6 5%
    blacklip oyster 21 17%
    blacklip oyster HQ 8 6%

total 125; 44% of which are useful

4- heavy iron jig bait; lominsan anchovy 33 27%
    lominsan anchovy HQ 10 8%
    merlthor goby 27 22%
    merlthor goby HQ 10 8%
    red coral 34 27%
    red coral HQ 10 8%

total 124; 35% of which are useful

red coral and blacklip oyster sell pretty decent in our market in Cerberus, relatively fast too, so nice source of steady income, they wont get u super rich though.
I guess overall northern krill is my favorite bait here, since it is close to the yuminzono in terms of coral and oysters fished up, but northern krill fishing animation is shorter and faster, plus easier on the ear if u ear fishing.

so that's all ive got currently, hope this is useful. im planning to do more things llike this, if u got any specific fishing holes u want to test out please say so or go ahead and do it and share it here. anybody with any experience with specific bait etc please share
also I will be doing the same experiment but with increased perception to compare and assess just how much difference increasing perception has on fishing results, I will post this here later.
    thanx and happy fishing

    Perception effects

so I tried increasing perception to see if that affects HQ yield. I attached materia, increasing perception by 11 points, from 201 to 212. everything else including gathering is the same.
I went out and started fishing with northern krill, here are the results:
    Rock lobster- 10 , HQ 2
    Lominsan anchovy- 33, HQ 6
    merlthor goby- 22, HQ 4
    red coral - 20, HQ 0
    black oyster 18, HQ 7

these were under same conditions as previous time, (daytime, weather etc)
    as a comparison;
perception 201, 19.3% of total fish were HQ, 11% were low lvl HQ fish.

perception 212, 15% of total fish were HQ, 8% were low lvl HQ fish

from this I can gather that increasing perception as such has no real effect on HQ yield, it is actually worse with higher perception although im sure that is a coincidence.

I will be trying the same thing with +20 perception soon.
thanx, please comment if u have any experience with this issue

If you want to see the difference with Perception, try with an higher difference (like 50 - 100)

Perception may have been influencing things in a way you were not tracking. Next time I suggest you track average fish length by type and quality.

    Good point there thanks
I'll keep it in mind, however what I really wanna find out is the effect of perception on HQ percentage yield

Fish length is supposedly what determines if a fish is HQ or not. So tracking changes in mean and median fish length should tell you if the change in perception is influencing fish length or if you may have already exceeded that fish's "perception cap." (Just as having greater than a certain perception maxes out the HQ rate of Botany and Miner gathers, Fishing may have a similar caps in order to prevent only getting HQ fish.)
