my japanese teacher told me a haiku usually has 5-7-5 lines the number representing the amount of hiragana or katakana needed to write them.

Not sure I see your connections in your 7-5. The 5-7 is good though.

A Blood red stains its surface,
Delicious apple.

Well teeeeeechnically a haiku makes allusions to nature. The JP thread is all about senryuu (川柳), which have the same structure but are meant to be funny.
