Just wish someone from square would do the rounds on these forums and see what's going on! People taking out new subscriptions has already dropped in last 2 months as well apparently! Errors are killing the game and its going un-noticed by the designers.

This forum is not for contacting SE for support... that needs to be done either in the bug reporting/general/feedback forums, or through the actual support portal (can be accessed directly from the launcher by the support link there... the gold question mark along the bottom). This forum is for user-to-user support, as noted in the guidelines in the sticky welcoming people to this forum.

It has been discussed exhaustively in numerous threads in here that there are known systemic issues with the North American network infrastructure causing problems in route to Ormuco (SE's ISP). This compounds any issues that may be happening at SE's end to the point it renders the game unplayable for many. SE has openly admitted when they have found issues on their end and worked to address them. The last several maintenances have included efforts to address identified problems with instance servers that have been causing extreme lag, disconnects, log-in errors, and loss of items.

Granted, their more recent efforts have been dealing with load balancing issues for instanced content, but it can potentially also extend into the general world as well. The other side of the coin is something outside of SE's realm of influence, but falls in the court of our ISP's to address. Routing issues within our ISP's own networks or with their routing partners are their responsibility to investigate and address either directly or through their partners, not SE. The trick is in getting your Tier3 Support involved to investigate the issue. Providing traces to your game server (and hopefully some other services like Netflix, Hulu, or even Google) that show signs of congestion in route are a big help in getting them involved.

Such routing/congestion problems are indeed something your ISP can and should work to address on your behalf. It is a known problem that has been documented for years, and is not isolated to just XIV. It has recently been reported extensively at various sites in relation to different gaming, video, and other entertainment/communications services...even plain web sites have been impacted.

If you are with a major carrier like TWC, Cox, Comcast, etc., might want to browse through their forums for connectivity issues... you may see a lot of reports there that are specific to their network and/or hardware that are at fault. TWC is LITTERED with posts. Otherwise, take some time to go through some of the maps/charts for the companies listed at downdetector.com, and you will begin to see a pattern forming where certain regions are having issues with access and congestion. The XBL and PSN outage maps/charts often show a lot of problems, especially during prime time gaming hours. If you are getting routed through those same regions, you are potentially being affected in kind.

These types of issues are continually at play because of oversold markets and poorly maintained networks that need to be addressed by our ISP's and their partners... SE simply has no influence here, as they are not the ones who have entered into service agreements with these parties--but we and our ISP's DO have such agreements that can and should be enforced.

I dont pretend to be as technically minded as you Raist but Is it such a bad idea for a SE member to look through these boards though? Irrespective of the category?
The data connection should of been tested then retested then tested again even before BETA had finished but its clearly been fixed when either SE spot a problem then wait (too long) to see if it settles or when they get heavy pressure. Where are these gazillions of dedicated servers we were meant to be getting?
In short... things could run a lot smoother.

At the moment I am singing the song "I WANT MY MONEY BACK. I waaant my money back!".

The constant server errors are absolute annoying. I bought the game 4 days ago, and I am NOT able to play since without constant server connection errors and massive lags in combat, crafting and questing.

As far as I can see, I will try to get a refund for this not so online game, that I call now: "Final Connection Error 90000"

I am playing lots of MMO, and i NEVER EVER had such a bad connectivity in all other games summarized.

And don't tell me, I have a bad connection or my Modem/PC/Provider has problems. DON'T insult my intelligence!

I am using DSL with a download speed of over 2 MB/sec -- up and download! All other MMO i am playing games are running without any lags.

Do not make more content, fix that damned crappy connection first. A stable connection is the foundation of a MMO game! Otherwise you will be faster down, than you can spell F2P.

Sorry, but I am very annoyed.

Totally agree. I would also like my money back because it seems that right after I used up my free 30 days and paid for a month that this started happening. I canceled auto pay a few minutes ago because I don't want to get stuck paying for something that I can't play. My friends from our FC play on ps3 and haven't had any issues can someone tell me why that is? But yeah I have a ps3 coming from amazon now just so I can play. SE better up their game or they will lose a lot of people and money.

not trying to insult anyone's intelligence... but just took a quick glance at some of those maps, and at 11:20AM EST on a Sunday morning, there are signs of elevated congestion in Southern California, Central TX, along the Milwaukee and Chicago corridors, Columbus in Ohio (this city is persistently struggling for some reason), Atlanta in Georgia, Jacksonville and Tampa in Florida, Raleigh and Charlotte in NC, Washington, New York, Boston... and that's just the big spots in the US. In Canada, they are limping along in Toronto, Ottowa, Halifax, and Montreal.

And that's just for North America. The UK is having issues as well. Nearly 2/3 of England alone is showing issues. Oslo, almost half of Denmark, Bremen, Cologne, and Frankfurt in Germany (big block between those last two), Paris, Rennes, Lyon, Toulouse in France, and across the border into Barcelona...

The point is there are documented widespread congestion issues that the ISP's need to get a handle on.

At this particular point in time, net usage is steadily on the rise In ~15 minutes, it has gone from an average of 7% above normal to 9% on one generic monitor, while on a more focused industrial index they are collectively up to 29% over average already (+34% in NA, +48% in EU). As a side effect, congestion is steadily on the rise because of it:
