I don't see the issue, be greatful for what you get :P
Customisation is nice and all, but by the time you have a full set of coil2 gear (LOL) its not like its guna matter.

It will. The way he described it in the live letter was rather vague, but you'll be able to combine the Zodiak weapons with "other items" to put specific stats on them, similar to materia but probably not as easy to obtain. It'll be great if we get the same options for armour in the future, but with how bland stats are, I suspect it'll be another false choice scenario.
They're going in the right direction, at least.
lol this whole post. This game doesn't have a fraction of the intelligent horizontal gear progression that monhan has, it is leagues away from it. Monhan is a action RPG meaning that buffing skills naturally takes precedence over raw stats increases while this is not. The objective of gear is completely different, it is comparing apples to oranges from another planet. I have soloed all of 2ndG (Freedom Unite in the west), Portable 3rd, TriG and I'm currently playing MH4.If 'best gear' means 'highest iLevel' then you have an odd idea of what 'best' means. If you've ever played even one Monster Hunter game then you'd know that 'best' and 'highest level' sometimes don't coincide. The armor in this game seems to fall in with this mentality in about the same frequency as Monster Hunter. Take the best hand piece for White Mage (hint: it's Darklight).
And darklight being the best, is that a joke?
In this game unless you have serious acc issues main stat + vit unambiguously > everything secondary. So when there is only one set at the top (allagan) we already know what BiS is, and have to deal with whatever secondary it gives us. Sorta kills the end-game theorycrafting but I agree with the principal of having the best being raid gear.
They should put in reforging in the game. Reforging lets you take 40% of a secondary stat and convert it into 40% of another secondary stat.

I would love more color customization.
You don't need a full set to want customization. It is not just fun to experiment, it raises the value of the best gear in the game. There is also the situation: lel I haz Allagan 2 chest, too bad not enough Acc to use it yet. This is a common issue and won't solve itself for a while.
probably. i never understood why materia sockets are restricted to crafted and a few random dungeon sets. You don't need a full set to want customization. 2 Sockets per piece would be so great. However, it is not the only option. They can make the Allagan be whatever way they think is balanced then allow us to swap one secondary stat at will for a reasonable cost. The cost can be the new tomes for all I care.
Well, since it will take very long for me and my FC to actually complete coil 2 turns (6-9), let alone get gear from it (I completed coil 1 turns a lot, still shy a ton of allagan gear I'd have liked), I'll rely on crafted and materia. Probably using the tome gear for the new relic or vanity. I want my Mad Hatter outfit. This essentially will force the allagan set on us regardless of secondary stats, due to the main stat (str/int/mnd) being significantly higher than the other options.
I might have a bit less main stat than i100 with i90 crafted, but i90 pentamelded beats i100, and i110 is not in the cards anyways. I'll just pretend like crafted is BiS.
Since you can't meld main stats, no crafted gear will ever beat something that has a higher ilvl.
