It seems the unable to detect Direct X error is getting worse. So I am guessing SE is kicking something around and aren't doing so well. I used to get it every once in awhile, while running in full mode. Now I get it quite often when I select my character to log on, or when I click logoff, I get the error, and it just boots me out completely. This makes logging out alot faster, but I am worried about data loss, but so far I have been lucky in that regard.
Is anything being done to remedy this, because it's definitely getting far worse than better ...

The problem has gone away for me. Vigilance with regards to updating the video drivers, and making sure that everything in the background has been turned off have done wonders. Even my DirectX errors while watching Netflix have gone away. I doubt that SE has done anything to fix the problem.

With dual monitors? Is this for an Nvidia card from the 200 series by the way, out of curiosity?

Last I heard there wasn't anything major regarding drivers and FFXIV, unless they haven't mentioned any compatability fixes for it anyways.

NVidia and AMD don't put all changes into their changelogs I think. Also some fixes for new games also apply for old games. Obviously they can't test all old games and check the influence. That's why sometimes new drivers break old games :P

I always thought that the game crashing on alt-tab was intentional to prevent botters since the days of FFXI. I actually ripped off my Windows keys back in the early FFXI days to stop accidentally hitting them and crashing in the middle of a battle and pissing off my static.

That said, I run a dual monitor setup right now. I set my 42" LED TV as the main monitor and basically just plop down on my couch with a controller and wireless keyboard. My 24" LED monitor sits at my desk and just displays Ventrilo so I can see who's talking. I also have my system information on it (CPU, Temp, RAM, GPU etc.). The controller is what sets the whole thing up though. It means I can't accidentally click out to the other monitor and crash the game. Works pretty well.

GTX460. Used to be that I could only get netflix to work by starting it up - in Media Center of all places - then starting up FF14. Then, it was a roll of the dice whether or not clicking in the media center window would crash 14 or not. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't. Now, it doesn't matter. Hulu. Netflix. Amazon Prime. Media Player. No issues at all. It just works. I will point out that, as far as netflix is concerned at least, I also religiously update windows; silverlight updates from windows update, and netflix is what silverlight uses.

Either way though, it works now. It didn't before. About the only thing I haven't tried yet is running a second directx game while running FF (though I have run any number of programs that use DirectDraw / Direct3D, just don't own any other games).

The problem with running FF-XIV on multiple screens it that SE doesn't have configuration options for it (or not yet anyway).
