The Expansion Theme - "1,000 Year War" War of the Magi

Q47: Could you shed some light on what the theme would be for the expansion pack?

A47: While I can’t really go into it at this stage, but one theme can be described as "a thousand year war."

The War of the Magi from Final fantasy 3/6 for the SNES. With our new NPC from Doma coming, do you think the expansion is closer than we think it is? Devs have stated (unable to find the post) they are already working on the expansion.

What are everyones thoughts on this? I am VERY excited to hear the news about the War of the Magi coming to Eorzea in some form. Final Fantasy 3(US) was one of my favorites --- I really hope a few iconic characters (or a full party of them) make their way to the game and play a more prominent role in the story. Perhaps fight along side us against a common enemy? Similar to what we see in our solo-class quests.

If 1st expansion storyline is based on the War of the Magi then most likely the final battle/Final boss/Final part of Main Scenario will not be in Eorzea but in the Garlean Empire meaning we may get the Garlean Empire in 1st expansion.

Also Yoshi-P did state he will not release the Gunblade class/job until the Garlean Empire can be accessed since that is where the Gunblade class guild is located.

We also may get the FF14 version of Kefka.

He has the crazy evil in 1.0 ( though we don't know his mental state now in 2.2) but he does not have the comedy side of Kefka

Nael was more like a fused callback to the Duke of Jeuno and Sephiroth. Not much of Kefka, really.

Well if they add a FF14 version of Kefka they need to make him right.

I believe this too, though I have thought of a few ways it might be implemented. Either way, I am totes excited.

Wouldn't mind some Campaign mechanics from FFXI in there...long as it doesn't become empty.

If this is the case, I'll be very excited to see how it plays out in the FFXIV universe.
Aren't we already doing something sort of like FF3/6's war? We're just slaughtering Primals rather than Espers.

The War of the Magi was the war between the civilizations of Nym and Amdapor. Doma doesn't really have anything to do with them. Though Doma may have everything to do with the first expansion. We know the expansion will add additional classes/jobs so we made indeed travel to Doma and the island of Thavanair and maybe even Othard (1 of the major Continents with Aldenard and Islabard).
