Level 110 gear on my level 50 character...

Am I the only one who finds it a bit disappointing to just keep getting higher level gear for our existing, level 50 jobs? Sure, equipping these new items makes fighting tough monsters easier, but in reality it's starting to seem like a vicious circle.

I acquire higher level gear to fight a higher level monster to acquire higher level gear to fight a higher level monster...

I would much rather level my character to 60 and gain new abilities and traits.
I don't mean so seem ungrateful, but will I eventually be using level 200 items on my level 50 jobs?

They already confirmed lv cap will be raised in the expansion. Besides, lv60 is just higher status which higher ilv gear gives + abilities. Where they can all together just add abilities and it will be the same thing.

I actually hope when level cap is increased some of the ilvl 110 gear start to become obsolete vs the lvl 60 gear that might deem a lower ilvl. But than that sounds a bit complicated so they probably will just lower the ilvl on the current items with level cap increase.

Most likely will compress item levels such that top equipment is equivalent to entry-level stuff at the new cap. I'd suspect it will go 20 item levels each step for now, then compress everything into 50-80 for the level 50 cap stuff. Entry-level stuff at 60 cap will be 80 (again 20 item levels above cap), with the new stuff being ilvl100. I find it unlikely that they will do otherwise simply because of how impractical designing equipment for 50-60 becomes.

Gearing for the sake of gearing, in addition hard-earned unique gear becomes obsolete with each frequent expansion due to item level increase. That is why i don't do any content that cannot be passed in 1-3 tries using the duty finder.

Woud you rather them increase level cap 10 levels every patch and continue cheapening the class with more and more fluff abilities until you use up all your hotbars for 1 single class and reach lvl100cap by the end of the year? Or you know, we can just have a steady increase in stronger gears and you can just ignore item level and look at it as: this item has better stats than the other items.

I find it equally absurd.... I'm sure they're capable of developing hard and challenging content if they really tried. Just making the mobs hit harder while giving us stronger weapons for bigger dps is the same bore as if they hit weaker with us wearing lower iLvl.

For example, I loved the God King Moggle Mog fight (1.0 more than ARR though) cause there is some unpredictability to it. More targets (moogles) that move, are grabbed and tanked or kited etc. which can turn into some pretty fun and chaotic situations that don't get too frustrating.

i doubt we will be in 110 when the expansion will be out.
the expansion is the 3.0, we gonna receive the 2.2... you can expect 3 more raise of ilevel after it. 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, since BC it's in 5 raid actually.

Not sure what Yoshi's plan is but over on FFXI they hit the brakes at 119 and have started moving horizontally again. I think it's likely that gear WILL see an ilevel reduction when the level cap hits that will keep max ilevel at a plateau for a little bit (ie. max ilevel before expansion = i120, max ilevel after expansion = still i120 but previous i120 gear is now i110 and the expansion gear is i120).
