Mog houses in FFXI were smaller than a small house here, and the only limit to how many items you could decorate with was how many you could smash into your inventory. To top it off, everyone in the entire game had one, compared to entire free companies sharing a single house. A single instanced house, inside of a housing instance.

A majority of the reasoning for this answer may be due to outside decorations, which everyone can see and does impact the ward as a whole. Even an increase of 1 outside decoration per lot is 30 more decorations, the equivalent of adding 1.5 small houses worth of stuff in the ward.
