Real life PvP? ;P

Whatever two persons (or more) do together in that sense, regardless of their sexes, should stay behind closed doors. Just had to jump in on that
The shared house sounds interesting, although I'm conflicted a bit.... I'd like to see that as an additional and optional choice to private residences. I'd still want to keep my own house that no one can mess with or rearrange the furniture whenever they see fit >_> Maybe a shared common room that serves as a connection between the 2 houses with locked doors to private residences on both sides that open on invitation only? Or private rooms as addition to a shared house.... Same for storage, I could do with having both private and shared storage, but not with only having the shared one.
And since we don't actually have storage in form of a wooden chest or whatever, maybe the shared storage could be a butler NPC, much like retainers. Preferably a Moogle, but considering their rarity (judging from the storyline so far), I don't think we'll be seeing them in every house. Unless they find a "clever" way to write them into everyday life.

I'm sure SE's clever writers will probably leave a lot of us players with stupid looks on our faces if they tried pulling that off. But I'd love to see a Moogle in a butler outfit! Yoshi, can we at least get a funny concept art of that for kicks and grins?Whatever two persons (or more) do together in that sense, regardless of their sexes, should stay behind closed doors. I was married in XI and I loved it! My rl bf and in-game husband were great friends so it worked out. We had tons of fun wandering the world of Vana'diel.
I wouldn't mind having marriage in XIV. I'd probably still just marry my bf or 'XI husband'. Same sex marriage doesn't bother me either.

if this game have marriage then it ll be the first p2p game I have see. My last exp with marriage system in a f2p is the world chat flood with e-lover-chat...look very silly

Well its not really a f2p game, its just free -for now-.
I cant wait for marriage. I have a Lala i'm hoping to put a ring on ^%^

Count me in on this idea!
It's.. I don't know, just something I think all MMO's really ought have unless there's a very good reason otherwise. It's one of those little concession to the R and the P in the genre name that makes a fairly big difference even to the crowd doesn't generally enjoy emphasising those two letters so much.
And.. this one.. really? This is one of the old features. I don't know if it was integrated into game systems, but it was an officially supported part of Ultima Online - you know, the genre's grandfather shy of MUDs - and was a really anticipated feature of Ragnarok Online, the other huge influence on the genre aside from Everquest. Both of those are pay-to-play .. well, okay, Ragnarok went free to play a little ago, but even so, the marriage system was in years before that. And both those games were the better for it.
Generally, the appearance of the marriage system isn't unusual, it rather illustrates an MMO's highpoint, when the developers are starting to add all sorts of neat little extras and have really gotten into their stride. I think Ragnarok in general hit its highpoint, in fact, right around the time they added the adoption system - married players could adopt another character, and that character's sprite would be permanently turned into that of a child XD
But yes, I would love to see this, though admittedly I'd not be surprised if, like so many other MMORPGs, it's a feature that appears around the time Final Fantasy XIV can be confidently called mature.

FFXI had the marriage system, but people didn't go flaunting it. All we can hope is that most of the people in FFXIV will be mature enough not to do that. And I saw most because we all know there will be those few immature ones who do.

^Check out ffxi marriage on youtube...you might get a cracked out jp commercial, but i mean in game stuff

I am all for marriages!
Though I personally don't lurk the bushes in Eorzea looking for a date, this is an RPG and I would love to see some romance floating around.
And yes please to the option to change surnames. I can see no greater joy in my day than hitting on a Mi'Qote with her husband standing RIGHT next to her. Especially if said husband is a moustached Lalafell![]()
