To actually answer: Onion Gear has appeared in a few FFs. It's a somewhat unique-looking outfit. That's all there is to it right now. Didn't need its own topic really. *shot of tequila*

The game needs a rule for when someone mentions XIV's lack of chocobos. Then there'd be nothing but drunken ramblings in the forum. Fun!

If i remember the lore around the onion helm, it was part of a set of equipment that in by gone times was given to people heading out for a life of adventuring. the rest of the set is well by that logic the rest of the set.

I think it might be a reference to the 'Onion Weapons' that new adventurers started with in FFXI. Probably more a nostalgia thing than anything practical.

I think what the OP is trying to get at, is that he is confused as to why such an iconic set of gear was turned into a subpar leveling set with nothing even remotely special about it. You would expect something like it to be in an endgame dungeon (Raid) or drop from incredibly powerful NMs.
