It's not that type of game in the tl;dr version.

Like FFXI there will no doubt be quests and whatnot that affects how NPCs "see" you in the world versus if you choose to completely ignore them. XIV's story and limited lore so far seems to follow we're still trying to make a name for ourselves, so we can't have good vs evil choices yet since we're still pretty much nobodies with a special ability.

It really depends on what they do with the beastmen tribes, since they're generally seen as the 'evil' ones and us (players) are seen as a 'good' ones. Who knows what the story in the future will spin towards but it would be a bit...weird to let us be good or evil when the overall theme isn't that type of storyline, thus far.
