In what FF game have you ever been able to be evil? That's what I thought.

In FFIV, you start out as a dark knight who slaughters an entire village to get a crystal for your King. In FFVII, you start out as a mercenary who's being paid to blow up stuff to sock it to Shinra, though at the cost of innocent lives. However, in both games, you do find yourself on the good team at the end.

It would be nice to see where the persecution of those with the gift comes from. more interesting still if its we the players that get involved, and not some "NPC evil counterpart" of us with the gift.In FFIV, you start out as a dark knight who slaughters an entire village to get a crystal for your King. Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun.
We kill hundreds of life forms a day in eorzea...isn't that enough?

I think that what would be a good idea towards this is to have faction based quests. The basic idea is that you take quests from evil NPCs and that starts giving you a reputation among that faction, which in turn gives you new quests. Though your choice to follow an evil path makes it so that NPCs from rivaling factions dislike you and won't give you quests. Along with that you will gain a bit of reputation with allied factions and soon you can branch out to support a side that could be either good or evil through your faction selection. It wouldn't change the main story line but I think if the implemented it right it would be even more open and rewarding than just letting you pick good option or bad option in the story line. (that plus you would get quest equipment you want as people playing good guys want hero armor, and people playing bad guys want villain armor)

Because then SE would have to make 2 storylines for the main story...which would only result in 2 half baked storylines, rather than one well done storyline.
Pretty much like all the western RPGs(don't get me wrong I like most of them), but the story is always half baked cause the devs give you the "freedom" to choose many different paths, which is a nice thing to be more individual...but the different paths are always only half as good as a really well focused main story for one specific path could be.

Join the Empire? They has airships, cool weapons, and jobs we don't have yet. And possibly rank 90+ accessibility?
Then again they could be good, but seem bad to us.
:O I wouldn't join... ... ... unless they had a wizard job that I could unlock if I joined.
Then I am sorry guys looks like I am on the wrong side of the baseball field.
