It's been recently announced that PvP will be implemented and possibly might play a major roll in end game and/or ranking up.
Most of us are familiar with the mixed emotions about adding PvP to FFXIV. On the one hand people are afraid that balancing classes toward PvP will ruin PvE. Also, open world PvP is hotly contested by many people as they are against being PKed at any time.
One the other hand, some people feel that FFXIV will do well to have ballista-style PvP and some even feel that it's incomplete and wont be able to compete with other MMOs without it.
During beta I did a PvP poll on the forums as it is a very interesting topic to me. Sadly, those forums are closed now and I can't bring back the results. However, I remember the general attitude of the majority of beta testers.
The voting choices were comparative to FFXI (as that's the PvP experience most of us have in common) and structured somewhat like this:
a) I prefer PvP to play a stronger, more central role than in XI
b) I prefer PvP to be about on the same scale as in XI
c) I prefer that PvP does not exist in XIV
This is not an exact replica of the poll in the beta forums (it was a year ago and I have no saved records of it so I am going on memory). Somewhere in the area of 150 people voted and the vast majority of people voted for option "b". People who voted for option "c" constituted about half the amount that voted for "b." Even less voted for option "a" but there was a surprising number (imo) who felt this way. Votes were accompanied by reasons behind them and many people agreed that PvE should take priority but having PvP would also be nice.
So what is the attitude now, after one year? I'm not trying to start a poll, by all means feel free to vote, but I will not be tallying them up as I did in beta.
My opinion: PvP is awesome. Fighting computers is fun but there's a unique feeling when competing against a human mind and is very rewarding in a much different way.
