I main as SCH and I've always wanted to see what the other side of fence looks like.
Just curious what kind of tips people might have. Things to watch out for, bad habits to avoid, etc.

But you know scholars are so much cooler than whms. My tip is to stay on scholar![]()
i do both and did the same (SCH main and sometimes playing as WHM)
Main advice is do not spam heals like you can do with SCH, no overhealing

Points for this =D. Really though, I just want to give it a go. If anything because it opens up a DPS class for me to use without having to level another one up. I love playing as my SCH buuut, I keep hearing about all of this love that WHMs get.
As someone who has cleared all content on both and who used to play WHM more in 2.0 and mainly maining a SCH from November onwards, off the top of my head at random:
Watch out for your aggro - as a SCH you never have to deal with this due to no HoT spells (save for WD) to trigger add-spawn aggro or overhealing more, never mind having a combined potency of heals for lower aggro thresholds (you and your fairy), with some of the 'active healing' of your spells being shielding, too, which doesn't net you aggro. Granted, this is less of an issue post-2.1 with the shield oath enmity increase etc., but don't go all out for no reason. WHM is more about knowing when to not heal as opposed to knowing when to heal.
And on that note, try to not have HoTs up in fights you know you will have add spawns soon. (Eg. Medica 2ing in Titan EX after earthen fury, just before the gaolers spawn - not a good idea). When doing dungeons, the same rule applies but with pulls - don't have Regen refreshed at the end of the pull, as that would lead the tank having it up on the next pull (unless they clicked it off vigilantly).
Apart from these kind of situations, it is always advisable to have Regen up when the aggro has been established, as it is very mana-efficient combined with cures and landing those freecure procs. Divine seal is your friend here as well: Divine seal -> Regen -> refreshing Regen at 1s left of DS = 34s~ of full, Divine sealed-potency Regen out of 60 seconds. Don't be shy to use Divine seal - it's only on a 1m CD and you can make the most out of it (like mentioned before).
Get more confident at precasting spells - on a SCH you're good to go with manual embraces+physicks and have the raw power without exhausting yourself, but on a WHM, you should know roughly when to precast those heals so you can optimize keeping up with cures easier as opposed to cure 2s.
Know when to stoneskin (if you've done any endgame content and know when to pre-adlo, shouldn't be an issue) and get comfortable with how long it actually takes to cast it and to see the effect being applied - many people stoneskin too late.
Know when to shroud it up - no hard rules here but "once in 1000 MP" seems solid to me. (I have about 4.8k MP with mulled tea on my i90 WHM and I tend to pop that first shroud at 3.5k-3.8k MP). You will need to pay more attention to how wisely you spend your resources on a WHM as opposed to a SCH.

Only Darth Vader was able to pull this off. You better stay on the dark side!
Very informative, thank you =).
Proficient on both classes.
Going from SCH to WHM, you will notice the difference in the tank takes dmg. On SCH damage would stagger all the time due to aldo, on WHM it just keeps on going, but you can heal bigger so dont fret too much.
No aggro worries on SCH, WHM - No Hots when adds are coming, or until tank has the target.
Knowing a fight routine really does help, for instance Garuda Ex start medica 2 when garuda cleaves, this will allow you to deal with the damage of friction without topping up anyone afterwards, however only do this for the 1st cleave, as medica will not wear off before the sisters come and most people will not cancel it (god knows why) so you pull aggro and most likely wipe the party. However, make full use of DS Regens, like you would fey embraces.
Cure bombing is good for dealing with melees who dont know when a cleave is coming, where as on the scholar you may need to lustrate them all or rouse fey, on WHM you can just Cure 3 the who is closest to them all and jobs done.
I would suggest running thornmarch a few times, it is a good healing exercise especially when you have bad tanks.
