How about an event that isn't based around official forum access? You know, since the rewards are always in game items that people will never get because of forum bans.

Including as many people in these contests is nice, but variety allows for some amazing jaw-dropping works that screenshots simply don't. I can't compose; I can't draw well; I'm no good at writing fanfics; I can't cosplay; I can't craft, but I get excited any time I see other people's talents produce something great.

You're definitely not alone. I have a meager amount of artistic ability (at best!), but I loved scrolling through the events during 1.0.

If you don't think non-screenshot events can be accessible, check out the Chocobos Rule the World thread(s). While there's a great deal of effort in all of them, the submissions ranged from cooking to sketching, graphic design to sewing, needle art, sculpting--I could continue.

...we had the one FC recruitment youtube video event, but we all know how the curators' pick went down for that one...

Afaik, the main problem on that event were about a good number of partecipants so much busy on create awesome videos, that they totally forgot to read first, and adhere then, the rules. And got disqualified. And raged on forum

I've also been waiting for a return to the 1.x form for contests. Screenshot contests just don't get my brain juices percolating the way the older ones did. What about that recipe contest, or better yet, the ring design contest? The top three entries from that contest are now part of the game! Wouldn't it be amazing to have an opportunity like that again?

Wow, that was a quick reply.
Now I'm a bit excited to see what comes out for the next event.

I understand the ease of a screenshot, but you could even make a small twist to it, such as adding a small caption.
Or flip it around, and have the judges provide the source material, and have people add on top of it.

It doesn't have to be the 'add your dub' to a video again, it could just be 'add a caption to this image'.
I'd welcome anything different that foster some new creativity.

No screenshots possible on the PS3, so we're left out of these events.
