It has always baffled me how people think that insulting, misrepresenting and shaming others will somehow win them over rather than garner resentment and further divide.

Glad to see some folks being reasonable and grown up about the issue though. Amazing what we can do when we look for common ground rather than reasons to scream and point fingers at each other.

With all due respect, a large number of players of consider 'vanity' a huge part of MMORPGs. Getting cool loot, looking cool, making your character appear how you want is kind of a paramount system in place.

Your pumpkin mask doesn't look cool to me. In fact, it looks like an awkward addition. But none of that matters, because if you like it, good for you! I don't want a petition to prevent people from wearing them. That's the difference: just because I don't like something, doesn't mean I want to prevent other people from making that choice.

Whether it's seen as bigoted or oppressing that men can't choose to wear dresses is at the express opinion of the developers, its their game at the end of the day and any damages caused by doing so would be their fault.

If you think for even a moment that this addition wouldn't be the spark of a problem for Square Enix, think again. As a very very large company ANYTHING seen as controversial has to be approached VERY carefully, something Yoshi-P himself stated.

But that's neither here nor there. I wasn't actually being patronizing in that comment, I think you're probably just a bit hyper-defensive after some of the posts in this thread.

My example was to illustrate how truly arbitrary all these lines being drawn actually are. The controversy wouldn't exist at all if more people adopted a more care-free attitude. We're fantasy characters in a game that lets men and women wear bondage outfits (the colliseum armors) for crying outloud, where men can wear bright pink robes, but a 'real' dress is going to push the game over the edge? I don't see that happening.

Call it hyer-defensive if you wish, but the lines aren't arbitary. They exist, or we wouldn't have a 20+ page thread about it.
People clearly feel strongly enough about it to agree or disagree.

Saying "Well why doesn't everyone just get along and be happy and care-free", but thats just not the society we live in is it?
Or this thread wouldn't exist in the first place, and you'd be planning your summer wardrobe of upcoming cocktail dresses in XIV for your male characters.

"With all due respect" is usually used as a not-so-subtle method of patronising, at least in the UK.

It's not really about a care-free attitude. It's about boundaries, which in life do exist. There is a limit on what people will expect and what the developers will intend to do.
Without boundaries I can assure you this game would be very different (See TERA for examples of armour).

The colour of your armour (such as dying a robe pink) is vastly different from a long-frill-cut-corset-dress such as the one in the OP. It's a world of difference. Comparing a robe to a dress like that is like saying "Well, why would I use glass for my windows when I can use corrugated steel instead!"
The development team will add it if they feel it fits, or that a large enough portion of the community demand in (As with anything)
