I'm sure some people are uncomfortable with people in pants. Should we ban pants?
    No, the point being.

Pants are common across both genders.

    Dresses are not.

Yet again you're missing the point of social normalties, which are going to be a huge factor in implementing something like this.

It's not about gender equality, AT ALL. It's about consistency in design decisions.

This is the biggest problem with these topics, a sensible response is given.

And people turn it into an "I'm being opressed!" "Bigots!" "Homo/Transphobics!" to get their point across, making it even more of a deal that it really needs to be.

Visual Kei is a very small minority.

Really? Causes most robes look like dresses to me.

Seems the most consistent thing to do would be to make the dresses for both and be done with it.

If you don't want to wear it, fine, don't wear it. God forbid they inject more choices into this game.

Along those lines, next we should have a Battlestar Galactica tie-in and all be given raptor mounts. Making gender meaningless in this game doesn't make sense - you have a choice to roll whatever character you want. You're stuck with its limitations. Lala's are short and can't see anything. Rogs are massive and block your view all the time. Female cats sit nicely and don't squat like male cats. Deal with it. Don't like it, role a different character, no one is stopping you.

My issue is not about what gender people are. It about making everything bland.... imagine if every whm dresses like Paladin? all chainmail and heavy metals etc... and Paladin wear gear like Blackmage...

Hey its fantasy, they should not lock jobs with AFs and job specific looks, i want my Monk to look like Behemoth! make it happen SE.

"freedom to wear ANYTHING" at the cost of game quality?

I don't know about you i like my game diverse, not anything for everybody. This game is already bland as hell, every player and their class look like each other, now lets mix male and female clothing, so it becomes unrecognizable to see what it is by looking at it..

We can play guess what sex that character is!

He? o.o.... um She is.. Heshe?

I really don't see what "game quality" is lost by letting people dress their characters how they want. If anything, it improves the quality of the game by giving us more freedom of expression so that we can better make use of a game system.

    There are always limitations.

There's a difference between freedom of expression and awkward additions.

Letting men wear dresses isn't exactly a "better use of a game system" it's vanity at most therefore a low priority (as are many other things).
    Don't confuse a 'game-sytem' with vanity.

Your point is unrealistic though. Gaia online lets you wear whatever you want. And you rarely see any 2 people who look alike. The current system is more likely to result in ppl looking the same than a "wear what you want" system. For example, if there are only 2 good looking armor sets for whm, ppl playing whm will mostly wear those sets. If you can choose from -all- sets int he game, everyone will mix and match things to create their own "unique" looks that represent -them-

Further I don't see how someone's sex matters to you. If someone came up to you irl or ingame and you didn't know if it was a girl or a boy, why would you feel the need to figure it out?

Probably not gonna happen. The lighting event was gender restricted. As well as the WHM culottes.

Doubt SE will do it, unless its another vanya-esque type robe

    Hmmmm.

I feel like no matter what I say I will get yelled at here but I'll bite. Japanese video games usually depict very effeminate males being the strong protagonist. Final Fantasy is a perfect example. Yoshitaka Amano is famous for depicting the male characters as having very effeminate features, with a few exceptions of course. In lieu of that, I've grown to like the look of effeminate male characters in games as a hero role. Granted, I've never been very muscular irl, so that may contribute to my opinion. My BRD is incredibly effeminate, which I like, and I chose fairly soft features for my character which accentuates that, but some of my other roles are not so much.

That being said, I feel that a dress would look more ridiculous and silly than actually attractive aesthetically. For BRD, it works because the forms and shapes go well with the male forms we have in game. A dress like this, I have a hard time imagining this working for the models we have.

On the other hand, the game already has its fair share of eyesores already, so I guess it wouldn't really matter. I'm trying to avoid the social politics of this while sharing my opinion, I'm speaking purely from an aesthetic standpoint. There are many options for males to make your character look effeminate as it is, same goes for masculine females. Adding something like this would be up to the devs to either say "This looks too silly," or "We can make this work," to look pleasing to the eye.
