On the same token, possessing something that is legitimately difficult to obtain, so difficult in fact that most will not obtain it, is an enjoyable part of gaming for others.
I don't think it is so much about being better but more about success. Some people just don't have patience to try to assist someone who may be struggling and just want to go in a dungeon and get it done with no mess or fuss. /shrug

Success wouldn't be nearly as much a concern as the posts on this thread. What these posters seem to want is something that a HIGH number of players--80-90% would be my guess--would see as nigh impossible to complete (think 30,000 Alexandrites), all in the name of lording their "accomplishment" over everyone on their server. Wanting content that excludes such a number of people simply for the enjoyment of seeing others not have what you have is about as close to obsession as I can think of.
Good, Yoshi started to wisen up on not handing stuff out COMPLETELY. As for what happens, it becomes dungeon drops - It has to keep dungeons relevant somehow. Or maybe he'll do it back how we did it in 1.23:
You farmed up the items from monsters or mining/botany...they USED to exist from outside of vendors. I70 also includes the old Giantsgall/tail or whatever weapons that used to drop from Skirmish.

If you mean the philo mats, no
During 1.23 they were sold by NPC at the hamlets for 100k gil (50k gil if the hamlet was at level2).
I think a NPC would sell them again for many gil or they drop also in the lv50 dungeons. Or they would be now "treasure hunt only" items.
Wisen up? Lol His plan was for 2.0 to be the BASE content, and gradually make more complex systems.Good, Yoshi started to wisen up on not handing stuff out COMPLETELY. Translated by Moriren from reddit:
The briefly mentioned Zodiac Weapon in the letter from producer will be a topic in the live letter.
-What exactly is this Zodiac Weapon? Relic's "rebirth" [not really sure what to call it]. However, it'll take quite a bit of time to accomplish.
-Even though it'll take a bit of time, is it the type that can be done bit by bit and still accomplished? There's no limit, so...[not sure how to translate a bit of this]. Each upgrade will make it stronger, and it won't end at Patch 2.2; upgrades will continue in 2.2, 2.25, 2.3 patch. After 2.2 there [will be more] in 2.25, but I don't expect very many people to have finished [upgrading] by then. Eventually at the final upgrade, we plan to allow users to mess around with parameters.
The last paragraph is mention by another user RE: the two options for high level weapons, that being the allagan, ones upgraded from collecting tokens/tomes token.

I wonder what dungeon they're going to curse by shoving darklight into it.
Sounds like that's what Brayflox HM and Halatali HM are gonna drop. I'd probably farm philo now, get DL on DRG and BRD (my last 2 50s DoW/DoM) so I don't have to deal with RNG when that happens or.... just wait to gear them in Myth. -.-"
