I totally agree with name changes because sometimes .... happens and people need them. Also when you have spent half an hour at the creation screen trying to get a half decent name it is easy to accept something second rate then later find something you like much better. I also have no problem paying for EXTRA storage or vanity items. SE is a business and to keep running they need money, yep subs are great but we all know they go up and down and if people are happy to pay for micro transactions then awesome. Just because you dont like them doesnt mean that everyone has to go without.
