This is probbaly the reason for them blocking mailing things to atls Ppl keep using the ff11 excuse. The 2nd character that u paid for wasent just a bank ppl would have been angry if they had to pay monthly for a mog bag
Just to mention it again, as some people don't seem to have this very clear. Having a precedent about something doesn't mean that we have to accept it and eat it with potatoes without saying a thing. Nor does it make it right.
Moreover, some of us came here exactly because there weren't weird micro-transactions and because the new development team and company direction seemed to be more honest than a lot of the other ones (game reboot instead of F2P, no cash shop with vanity, features or content, new items from the PS4 CE being granted to old CEs too without having to buy the game again as others do, etc.). Somehow, that goodwill seems to be changing to a more greedy stance and we aren't very happy about it. Do I have to say again that the armoire feature is being limited artificially and then they plan to charge extra for more retainers? Or that, theoretically, the game is doing fine and there's no need for those cash grabbers besides to milk your customers?
You can be ok with paying for everything, but we have every right to voice our opinions if we feel that we aren't being treated as valuable customers and start to feel just like walking wallets. On the other hand, they did a nice presentation stating their principles, and it would be fun if they ignored all this after everything that they've been doing right.
Having to pay a sub and then pay extra for quality of life features that are being developed/implemented with said sub is... I don't know what to say, really. What would be next then? Paying for each and every patch that adjusts or improves something (like when the FC bank log was introduced)?
I remember setting up the payment plan for it in the first 30 days. They may have switched it after the free time period but I had 3 retainers on my main. So yes it was an option even for a short time.Extra retainers was planned, but never came. First the payment service was delayed until january 2012. Then the dev thought they can just let it be with 2 free retainers until ARR because old XIV end soon anyway. The idea was that the retainers should replaces the mules that was known in XI (that also costs 1$/month).
But there was still the option to buy an extra character slot for 3$/month and use the retainer in an empty market ward to sell the items for 1 gil to yourself for item transfer between the characters.
I guess I have my tinfoil hat on also. I always thought it was bizarre not to be able to mail anything to alts due to RMT. And I have never played a p2p game that cost RL money for more bank or inventory space. It was always bought with in game currency. Inventory space is not a vanity item and the armoire is too limited to be of any real use. I have to agree that this sounds premeditated.
I have no prayer for that...
Restricting mailing alts never made sense to me. You'd think they'd want RMT to mail alt chracters as it would be easy to track/monitor. Instead RMT launder gil through the MB.I guess I have my tinfoil hat on also. I always thought it was bizarre not to be able to mail anything to alts due to RMT. No, my friend. The one who needs to educate themselves is you. It is a very unwise business who does not take into consideration their customers' feedback. The business makes a decision and the consumers provide feedback. That's the give and take in a free market system. When the consumers decide to withhold feedback, the business will not stop pushing things out of the goodness of their heart. They will continue to push for more and more, and the consumer will get less and less unless they speak up.
I simply cannot agree with restricting game features like this in a subscription based MMO. I do not see it leading anywhere good.
The two are completely different. One is a game system being blocked off behind an additional paywall. The other is just another character (and you're forgetting to mention that FFXI's sub with one character was lower than the standard $15/month for a p2p MMO).

You should have bought an authenticator.....
Your tears feed me....
It was premeditated before 1.0 release, as it was a ready to deploy feature at 1.0 launch. It wasn't used as the rest of the retainer system wasn't finished.
