So they going to make it so you need more inventory, then charge you more.

In every p2p MMO out there, your access to inventory space and market board usage is not restricted behind an extra pay wall. FFXIV is a p2p MMO and thus it should be no different. It's really as simple as that.
Actually Lotro sold a booster pack for shared bank storage before it went FTP. FFXI did too if you count paying the extra $1 a month for a mule character. FFXIV 1.0 did as well with the $1 a month per extra retainer.

Just go grab one
Listen here, who cares about "other" P2P? SE can do whatever the heck they want.
You want more Retainers pay for it, deal.
It's like WoW asking 40$ for an Expantion of their Games, other P2P deliver them for free but Blizz makes you pay for it.
It's called marketing.
What I can't with the "Market board usage is not restricted behind an extra pay wall" first off you already have two retainers.. with the patch we may get a third for free (through questing or what not) now then if someone wants to buy one more because maybe they are a hoarder that is not restricting access in anyway. You can use the MB right now.. and maybe you are.. how is this...what? I highly doubt someone is going to buy a hoard of retainers just so they can hold the market for one item. It's called supply and demand if you have 4 retainers selling similar stuff.. you still are competing with EVERYONE else who is also selling it. Do some people corner the market sure but I'll be damned they don't have anything better else to do...
How do you "win" by having multiple Retainers available to Venture? Yes, you'll get more items - but, as far as we know, Retainers gather very few items even at their highest level. You'd also need gear for every single retainer, as I assume it's equipable and once attached to a Retainer another one can't wear it at the same time. It'd take a good amount of time/effort to actually maximize the effects of all your Retainers (you'd also have to level them ALL up), so in reality you aren't paying to win - you're paying to get access to the ability to put in an (at least) moderate amount of effort for very minimal reward. There are a lot of factors we really just don't know about in regards to Ventures so it's kind of hard to defend or be against it... though I can't really imagine gil will make you "win" anything in a game where the best gear is from dungeons. Maybe you can monopolize some area of the market with enough work (and assuming you're gathering/crafting while all your Retainers are... among many other things) but that's about all you can really do.
Paying for more Retainers doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. I probably wouldn't bother getting any unless the price was low and I was running out of inventory space - not the case for me atm, however.
I see paying real money for more retainers as a convenience. Of course I would prefer it for free.
We already have it so we can create multiple characters. It takes very little time to have to level up an alt to have two more retainers. It's just annoying to transfer items between multiple characters, which can be done though FC bank.
See? Everyone who said "SE AND FFXIV WILL NEVER HAVE MICROTRANSACTIONS!" honestly don't keep up with any interviews when Yoshi straight up said the mog station is being setup for that and even back in 1.0 buying additional retainer's via an extra fee was going to happen.
Even when yoshi took over he said he was going to retain that but pricing wasn't determined. Those who hate 'P2W' or microtransactions, you shouldn't have bought DLC or made F2P/B2W MMOs popular, you send the message we want this
As said, even XI does it and they did it recently with bonus item codes to "test the water" and it went over well and no one really complained because it only offered an "advantage" up until level 30.
