------ Intro ------
Good day everyone... Well, this is just an idea I came with after reading so many threads where people complain about following things:
- Dungeon are repetitive, and really closed-linear.
- Maps are a waste, nothing interesting to do in them aside of FATEs...
So here comes an idea, not necessarily has to be implemented, neither even readed, it's just a random nooby thought I came with after reading so much of those threads...
---- The Idea -----
Why not make the awesome and beautiful huge maps we have there useful?... The idea would be... Use them as dungeons!... Yes, ok, it seems weird but... Wouldn't it be awesome to for example start a 'dungeon' in duty finder where you appear in a certain part of Coerthas, in the map there's only you and your party (Similar to how the channels of dungeons actually are) and the map is full of different mobs and random ones? With different tasks to do there for obtaining side-rewards? So you could go to... Many places! Ride in chocobo or use the chocobos, (Giving them utility), Moving away because strategy. (For example, there are two pillars, one north, and one south, that have to be activated at the same time for make the big boss appear) Or something like that....
It could have a lot of ways for doing this. There could be battles even in the cities, could you imagine a city without players there? being under attack by enemies and transformed in a dungeon? Starting for example in Fishermans' bottom of Limsa and having to rush to Merlwyb office to kill some monsters trying to enter, then going to the coral tower that is under an attack of the sahagin... Dunno, just ideas, many ideas... And overall, probably a good way to use the maps that, in my opinion, are all better, far better and exciting than the dungeons itself.
This would give players different random tasks, for example, not all the dungeon-big maps, or however we want to call this, would have the same targets, it could be random. (For example, a party is running a 'Open World Dungeon' in Southern Thanalan and they started in Sagoli Desert, having to clean it of some worms there. While another party appeared just in little Ala Mhigo that is under attack...By the Amal'jaa.)
We could make of this an epic adventure of exploration, such as going to search for some things out there. (Another example, For continuating the quest, the group has to find some kind of fire orb, there's only one, but... 5 locations... Of course 5 locations are dangerous, so they would have to choose between try dividing, or go all together, or split in groups of two...)
Or have in the minimap-map signalized all the enemies, and you have to clear it all (They won't respawn, until clearing the map already as if it would be a 'stage')
Of course... The rewards!... Even if such a thing would be there, but wouldn't be profitable, we would be in the same things... Profit should be... a little less than the dungeon, but of course much more than randomely killing monsters outside dungeons. (If the reward would be much than then dungeons, or even the same, nobody would play dungeons, of course, aside of if you like it...)
For example in my personal opinion, just to not has to do it in a closed space like the dungeons is enough reward, and to have a little more of exp while killing the mobs that when you do it regularly (Is a joke) is enough...

I already expect comments such as that the idea is a madness, or that it's not really needed in the game already, I know, Square Enix has a lot more of important things to do, such as changing the skill system and let us customizate them (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ills-or-traits.)... But, okay, I just wanted to share an idea.
