i still don't understand how sending someone a private tell and telling them i'd help them out to improve instead of calling them out in front of the entire group made me the one harassing them.

You could have left it as a simple "if you ever need help with rotations, lmk" and left it at that. He probably did feel harassed by you messaging him. If he wanted your help, I'm sure he would have asked for it.

That's not to say you're not a nice guy for trying, but some people don't want your help.

You did hurt the poor thing's feeling. You prove him he wasnt as good as he thought he was, and he obviously couldn't stand it.

but that is kind of the point. why should i have to guess where someone draws the line on helping? if someone wants help and asks for it then i'll give it, but if they aren't doing their job i just simply leave the party. some earlier was saying that was the elitest mentality. i don't look at it that way because if someone wanted help and asked for it i'd have stayed and ran multiple dungeons with them to help, but i am not going to do the entire dungeon for them and wipe over and over on content i have beaten hundreds of time while they aren't getting any better.

Leaving a party because they're terrible isn't being an elitist. That word gets thrown around way too easily nowadays.

I think dailies have really caused a lot of people to become very impatient. Vets don't like getting couple with newbies randomly through duty finder.

But everyone was a newbie at once. I started playing in September. I remember most everyone in a dungeon would be new or not so burnt out on it that all they cared about was getting through it ASAP and having no time for talking to anyone.

Also, no one was bothered by newbies watching cutscenes.

So many vets now tell newbies, save your cutscenes for your inn room. Well that takes the cutscene out of the context of what you are about to run.

I find it hypocritical that some vets insist they don't have time for newbies watching cutscenes and that they absolutely should not except in their in room. Yet didn't the vets watch the cutscenes when first running the dungeons seemingly so long ago? So I guess newbies now don't deserve the same experience as newbies back at the beginning? :/

And that might be where I would draw the line. I think it's important to make the effort, but the helping hand need only extend so far and at some point it's up to them to try and meet you half way.

We've all been there, banging your head against the wall because the person isn't getting it or better yet isn't receptive to your help or thinks they don't need it when they clearly do. That's when you turn around and head out the door.

I'm not going to spoil my first run by reading a guide. I'm not going to skip cut-scenes and watch them in the inn later just so I don't waste your precious time. I'm not going to research my role, or bother to check what is considered a decent ilvl for each piece of content. I'm going to jump right in when the game allows me to and see for myself. I'm going to learn as I go and you're going to have to put up with it. I'll probably want to explore the whole dungeon including the "pointless" area's and you'll have to deal with that too. I don't like using "advanced" methods to clear the dungeon more easily or quickly, because I feel they are often cheap ways to win and don't give the real intended experience (at least for my first run through). I may stop now and then to appreciate the scenery after fights. If my friend is with me or other players will be interested I'll stop to chat and have a laugh, and we'll find it funny when we die. Oh and I may even stop to grab a drink, if the mug runneth dry! You'll have to suck it up and deal with it because I don't care what you want, I'm playing for what I want.
However, while I feel your pain sincerely, what I want from the game is a completely different thing to you. Explain to me why you're more important?
So here's the thing... I completely agree in that this is a fair and reasonable stance for one to take. Hell this is how I feel when experiencing new content for the first time. However this is what you do with a group of your friends or with a party you put together that has the understanding that you will be taking a leisurely stroll through this dungeon and want to take it all in - not blast through to cap tomes.

It's not really fair to be entering a dungeon via the duty finder with these intentions in mind. There are many that will be interested in taking this approach, and it should be up to you to take the time out of your day to find those people and form a group. Unknowingly subjecting others to this takes away from their time and their gaming experience and detracts from what they want from the game. That wouldn't really be fair now would it? Because afterall, why are you more important?

I do my best to help people when I can, especially in DF and I'm running a dungeon I know. When I don't know a dungeon, I ask, and I like to look up fights beforehand so I'm not completely clueless as to what the mechanics are - I haven't ran into anyone who hated me for it. So far I've been having positive encounters, but I'm just one person; I don't speak for the hundreds of thousands of players logging in each day.

Nope. Most of them skipped them their first time too. The ones wanting to force skipping that is.

I haven't run into that at all yet. If I did to be perfectly honest I would just ignore it and watch the cinematics regardless. If that bothers them then they can kick me but like you said they watched them in context at one point as well I don't see why just because I'm new I should have a lesser experience because they don't have any patience. When I do the roster and I get into the duties that I've already been through and even newer players than me have cinematics I just wait for them to finish. I try to pay it forward.
