Hello. I've been getting into a lot of arguments lately regarding if the current BiS will still be important or not. I personally feel that it's very important, but it seems that a lot of people disagree with me. So he is my two cents for why I feel that the current BiS will still be important even after the patch releases.

The current BiS gear is going to be very important even after patch 2.2. Just like how DL and CT gear is more of a threshold point for advancing with item level, so too will myth and allagan gear. Even when coil and Leviathan come out, I'm pretty sure that those fights are design for ilv90 players. So for anyone who isn't ilv90 when those are release, you probably still want the current BiS before trying the content. Considering that the weekly lockouts will be removed.
It's like this: You don't go into coil just because you have full Darklight gear. You make baby steps into your advancement. So you'll probably save up a week or two first on myth gear, and then you would also want to get some CT gear before entering. You may also likely want to grab your Relic weapon too.
You never go into a fight unprepared. Min/maxing is always important at all parts of the game. Sure, you can survive without doing that, but every little bit you do is always a plus. Everyone is aware that there will be a new BiS for all sets, but like I had stated before, you would probably need the second best BiS (or older Bis) first to reach that point. T1-T5 are not being nerf, they're just being opened up.
Basically, what I'm addressing is that people seem to feel that the current BiS gear no longer matters just because 2.2 is coming out. And I'm just trying to explain to everyone that it still does matter, and will still matter even after the patch.
T6-9 or correctly called "The second coil", will most definitely be set up like the first. Once a week, hit or miss. So in the mean time, what will you most likely be doing? Probably grinding turns 1-5 while simultaneously earning myth tomes for completion. When you have to wait for weekly drops, your going to be farming for second best. Second BiS for whatever that may be. Sure you could get a full allagan set or full myth set. But if your farming T1-T5, your probably filling in your BiS pieces anyway as you go regardless if it's allagan or myth; while slowly replacing that with any new gear from the second coil, and Leviathan or King Mog. And just like how coil is now, you might not even get a loot drop on some weeks. So no, you won't necessarily replace it almost immediately.
Which even Leviathan for all we know, could have iLv85 weapons. If he happens to actually be set up like the hard mode primals since he is not an extreme.
So say 6-9 come out, and your likely item level 85, you enter turn 6, beat it easy, but you don't get any loot. No biggie, you move onto turn 7. Okay this time you happen to get a loot. Lets Say it's ilv 100, it probably increase your item level by 1 if it was a ilv 90 piece gear that was replaced. Now you move onto turn 8. (please keep in mind that not everyone in your group may be as well geared as you're). So you try turn 8, and you happen to wipe a lot. Being a brand new dungeon there's no telling what the issue may be. It could be your strategy, or it could be your failing the DPS checks. Eventually, your gonna grow sick and tried of wipping and your gonna find a new group, or your just gonna give up. Wait til next week and see if you can earn new pieces of gear to progress yourselves a little.
In the mean time, if content is too hard, your going to replace your outdated gear with anything better. Any ilv 70-80 gear your going to want to replace with anything ilv 90. But if your gonna get ilv 90 gear anyway, why not try and get the one that is considered best? Any small boost will ACTUALLY make ANYTHING EASIER on not just you, but your entire team! This is why there's checks!
I honestly feel that everyone is underestimating the second coil. Remember, this is content that is suppose to last us the next three months after all! So why would they make it easy? Everyone is asking for harder content. So what if this time, SE does deliver us with harder content?
And remember BiS doesn't limit to just one class. The farming for current BiS is going to be a must for a lot of players! In fact, people will likely sell turn 5 for that very reason! And even right now before 2.2. no one wants to even do T1 with anyone who doesn't have at least full DL gear. So why would T6 be any different with myth and allagan?
The current BiS is always going to remain a factor when approaching newer, and more difficult content.
And lastly, here's another thought. What if you happen to make it all the way to turn 9? It's probably because the current BiS gear you're wearing could have been more then capable of carrying you that far! Now you have the stratification of knowing that you're capable of doing all the new turns without trouble every week! When in turn, that would make you very grateful that you spent the time, to get that gear in the first place! And of course, now some people are gonna farm the gear now just for glamour anyway!

This is just my two cents on the subject.
