Such as, if I were my paladin, could I glamour my shield to be nothing? So it looks like I am not using a shield at all, but I am?

nope, not how it works. you can hide your shield/sword when you are walking/running around tho. but when you draw your weapon it comes back.
Disappointing.
I'm pretty sure they took a long, hard look at nudist raids and decided to nip that problem in the bud.
Why even bother adding glamour then if you don't have complete control on what your character wears.
Because it gives people the ability to wear class appropriate equipment other than the current end game tier gear, thus letting people choose a look they want and preserving the value of older equipment to some degree. It is an excellent addition to the game and many other titles, including indie titles, have done the same thing.
Rather than complain you can't make a weapon 'invisible', then make it a part of the outfit. Plan on making it work rather than plan on complaining about what you won't be able to do.
I understand the restriction so casters can't wear heavy armor, but if that restriction is in place then what my class can wear should be whatever I want. Unfortunately this isn't the case. If a cowl becomes the best in slot piece for caster then all I can glamour is a cowl. I can't wear a hat or robe.Because it gives people the ability to wear class appropriate equipment other than the current end game tier gear, thus letting people choose a look they want and preserving the value of older equipment to some degree. If I don't want to look like I am using a shield I should be able to.
If you're using a shield, you're going to have a shield. Your best bet is to find a shield that works with the rest of your outfit. Think of it as an accessory!
Bull Hoplons, Bladed Lantern Shields, and the AV shield aren't bad peices to pick up and are all pretty good ways to hide horribly bulky shields like Darklight/Darksteel and the Titan shield.
You can still disable the graphics for sheathed weapons/shields just like you can helms. If it bugs you that much, glamour the main/off hands to something that you're reasonably comfortable with, and keep it all shut off when your weapons are sheathed.
looking forward to carrying a scythe around...
