New player, unsure on which server/realm to choose (EU)

Hi all

starting a new character after returning to the game from release (only got to level 7 then anyway lol) so im totally new.

Just cant decide on a server. to me population and community spirit is very important. Ive been told Cerberus is friendly but low population. I was also thinking maybe moogle or odin.

Basically I would like for there to be players around while im levelling for group quests or dungeons.

If you use the Duty Finder for instanced content like dungeons or guildhests, it can put you together with players from any of the servers in the same Data Center. So if that's your main reason for wanting a more populated server, it doesn't really apply. From any of those, you'd have access to being grouped with people from any of the Chaos Data Center's worlds (Cerberus / Lich / Moogle / Odin / Phoenix / Ragnarok / Shiva).

It's different if you want to put together your own team of people you know. If you're setting up a group yourself and selecting members to be in it, then you can only accept people from your own server. That's where the specific server you're on makes a difference (and it's why people with friends in the game want to be on the same server as their friends). But for that, it isn't about the overall population of the server as much as the number of players in your Free Company and/or Linkshells (i.e. the number of people you know or can easily reach to ask them to join you). Even on a relatively low populated server, it should be possible to find an active FC to join.

Well.

Lich is in theory the newest of the EU servers, so probably should be where you should start... At least I thought so and did so. (Sadly there's no much difference between other servers or Legacy ones, since chars can almost freely change server with a secondary service.

As Niwashi-san said. It doesn't really matter if you are wondering about the population just for duty finder, because you are going to play with everyone of all worlds (Or at least EU ones?)

If you mind about population for doing FATEs and other things... Lich is full of it, sometimes even it says that server is full, and there are a lot of zones where you can enjoy of a nice environment of cooperation with the others doing FATEs...
