And you're right, camping and killing to never see a drop is disappointing, i had such experiences in ffxi, though i'm not here to discuss only about this kind of content i must say i liked it, the excitement of the hunt, it's something i don't feel in dungeons. now, what most ppl want is interesting and useful open world content, it doesn't have to be related to NMs or drop rates, lets say some kind of fate bosses in dangerous open world dungeons, they could have a low drop rate like a 5% on a piece of gear on par with highest tier tomes gear, for everyone who gets gold and may be tomes for the ones who get silver.
What i try to say with this and my other posts is we can have both, if the gear is almost the same, the instanced players won't feel forced to play open world, and the same way the players like me who likes open world can chose an alternative. The open world way will always be slower, but the players choosing this alternative will do it because they like it, if someone doesn't like it can just ignore it. And that "epic gear", well this kind of gear will always drop in coil, ex primals or any equivalent of coil we get in the future, never from open world, and still most ppl will never get it until said content is nerfed.
If you want open world content to go with the philosophy (<.<d) of the game, those NMs could drop tomes, but this design would feel a bit bland.
And please don't tell me you can get tomes doing the fate bosses we have now, because i tried, doing fate bosses, treasure hunts and rank3 dailiess and with those 3 i was still too far from the myth cap.
As you can see, we are in this forum discussing ways to design open world content to have everyone happy, but threads like this one, pessimistic post or harassing post telling us to leave, not only are helpless, they are hurting the game.
But we want a final fantasy not a dark souls, if a game like EQ next or ESO fails to meet my expectations i will just ignore and move on, but there's only one FF based MMO (FFXI have been destroyed don't mention it) moving on is fine for some ppl but not for FF fans, we can't wait another 10 years to see if the new final fantasy online will meet our expectations.
