Auto attack can work. If my memory serves me right in FFXI Rangers couldn't shoot if they were moving while engaged. Maybe buffs could be applied while moving or make disengaging easier.

Pre-buffs worked in XI because you only needed your weapon out for AA and WSs.
XI: Zeroblade, Titan Server
the class doesnt play in a way that needs to spam a basic attack to do its job, or do good damage past 20. (multishot)
And giving anyone ranged attacks without stopping will only unbalance ranged attacks more in a game where you can have the same run speed as monsters, which will only get more exploitable if they remove ranged attacks from all monsters, and increase mob deagro range which they said they will. In fact becoming SUPER exploitable if you didnt even have to press a button to kite cheese. just run away till the monster dies, and win.
BTW mages stop twice when they cast. and they will also stop when they use ranged darts
melee dont need to stop while doing basic attacks (even though they do stop) because they cant do damage without being in range of attacks and AOE.
even if they chose to make archer AA, it would probably only make the job less unique, less damage, and less entertaining

/10char pretty much sums it upthe class doesnt play in a way that needs to spam a basic attack to do its job, or do good damage past 20. (multishot)

I say yes, but have it act as a toggle... Meaning you can turn on auto attack, or turn it off, perhaps doing a skill would turn it off so you can quell up attacks and buffs, and then release then you'll start auto attacking again.

does aoe toggle on/off not ring any bells? That system was clunky as hell and doesn't need to be brought back to life in ARC lol
I totally agree with you, it makes really no sense to me why Ranged jobs aren't able to Auto Attack, not just Archer, it's going to make playing my PURE healing conjurer much more annoying, having to run over really close to each monster and hitting it with my wand so i can get EXP ;3; unless I'm misunderstanding the update, the archer thing bugs me as well, Archers always been one of my favorite jobs, but i doubt I'll ever touch it again after this update, spamming attacks constantly on melee jobs hurts my hand too much XD; so I'd rather just level a combat job over ranged now ; ;
Oh, and Sorry your thread is getting bombarded with rude posts~
it seems nowhere online is safe from rude people/trolls now, I'm sure I'll get attacked now too, simply because i share your opinion ;;
Will the Fanbase like the new changes about the Auto-attack?
Will they like the Archer's Auto-Attack type?
And what about Square Enix. Will they satisfy the need of the players!?
Let's find out, in another episode of
