I'm...not even going to dignify this one with a response. Enjoy you day/weird as can be logic. In some games, yes. And in FFVI, I could teach every party member every magic spell in the game. So...yeah, let my tank learn Ultima, Meteor, Flare, Holy, Pearl, etc....and we have a deal.
Also, let me equip an economizer and gembox so I can double-cast Ultimas for 1mana.

As a Paladin/Warrior myself, Magic still hurts me a lot (Because I can't parry/block it, even though most of them can be avoided by running behind the monster, some will hit you no matter what)... so, no thanks! As for PvP, can't tell. I don't like PvP, I didn't even make the quest for it, but your suggestion would hit my PvE activities as well.

Part of that high damage that comes with these classes is the fact they are 'glass cannons', you are sacrificing that survivability for increased damage. Giving these classes the ability to survive multiple hits or large amounts damage or negatiing an requirement to dodge attacks as they could survive better than other classes would break major game mechanics

Go fight Hali in Haukke Manor Hard and watch your HP when you get hit by her full powered Void Thunder spell. You want casters to TANK that damage with their lower HP totals while the real tanks just explode? Any one else have examples of just how bad this idea can be? That's the only one off the top of my head since I farm that place regularly.

You can place every attack considered magical there. Remember we also have cast interruptions.Go fight Hali in Haukke Manor Hard and watch your HP when you get hit by her full powered Void Thunder spell. True enough, though in her case after her first devour she can't be cast interrupted. While that isn't true for everything, what happens when you get a resist on an interrupt?
Not arguing, just proposing the scenario.

Oh, no. The interrupts I meant are the ones BLM/SMN can receive after suffering an attack, which make the situation even worse!

You talk about realism in a game where you got people throwing spells at each other, dragons fly around and we got magicical technology like teleport en straight up rezzes.
I do remember at least one boss in wow which had to be tanked by a mage which was pretty fun.

Hi2u "Realistic Fantasy Worlds" - http://www.writing-world.com/sf/world.shtml
For those of you who has trouble separating yourself from "real" and "fantasy". Games in a "fantasy" setting are for all purposes, a "fantasy" book given computer graphics. It still needs to be "believably real".
