There is a reason crafted gear isn't the best, they just don't want people to go to the market board put down a bunch of gil and instantly have the best armor in the game without even killing a single boss or doing any endgame content.
Yeah, instead they want you to wait until 2.2. run WP 50 times speedrun in a row and instantly gear in myth.

Myth gear will no longer be the best gear anymore in 2.2. You have to do the 3 new dungeons, and coil 6-9 for the best gear.

The other person's + your statement = the truth.

They don't want people to be able to just buy the best gear (To stop RMT, which they're failing at anyway) and it would invalidate their lockouts and people wouldn't even log in that one day a week that they do now (They are also failing at player retention).

This wouldn't be a problem if the materials are rare enough for crafted gear to only be considered an alternate way of gearing.

It would cause crafted gear to be expensive enough for most casuals to not care too much about it. (players that don't feel the need to get the best gear as fast as possible)
But it'd still be a possibility for the more hardcore players to have an alternate way of gearing, next to tome gear, if they're simply not lucky in Coil.

Myth gear will be far better then the new dungeon drops.

New tomb gear and coil gear will be better then myth gear though.

Dungeons are only there to get myth and the new tombs.

You miss the point 3 new dungeons will drop new tomes they already said this inturn will buy the new best gear. You can't get new tomes in WP.

I can understand why they don't want every BiS item to be buyable but I really don't see the harm in combinations.

BiS body and head and legs and weapons bought via new tomes, BiS accessories dropped by bosses, belt and boots and gloves craftable via super rare mats and master recipes but need to be penta melded to really be BiS.

That way you ensure that players are really doing all sorts of content and you're including both crafting and raiding at the same time.

Dude, don't you know that that's the very definition of a healthy economy?

My FC that has several hardcore crafters just spent 50 mil today on a L sized plot on Phoenix. How did we achieve this? Turns out you make more money by actually crafting and selling stuff than you do by whining on the forums that you have to deal with competition and can't sell items for 1 mil a piece.

Regardless, like someone has already pointed out, getting a Luminary isn't hard, just time consuming. You can just quick synth it all.

This means a player could possibly specialize in everything, but it'd be very time/gil consuming due to having to switch every time. (so most players will likely just stick to 2 specializations)
You know what's one of the greatest things about FFXIV? That I can gather all my materials and craft all my gear myself. I won't sacrifice that just to "fix" the economy.

Having BiS gear require a crafting part and a dungeon part? Great!
Allow all gear to be melded and converted (including deungeon gear)? This should have been in the game since day 1!
Forcing specializations that will greatly prevent you from crafting everything on a single character? I won't ever agree to something like this.
Placing artificial caps on the amount of materials in the game via open world NM drops like in FFXI? Sorry, won't ever agree with that either.

My definition of a good economy is a place where players actively buy and sell stuff on the MBs, not that prices are skyhigh.

The only way I can see crafted gear being anywhere near BiS is if specific mats for it drop from the end raids...and that those mats AND the crafted gear are unique and untradable.

You have to get the mat(s) yourself and craft the gear yourself.

EDIT: Also, its a rare drop, not a guaranteed drop
