Aside from the graphics, there wasn't a single redeeming thing about this game throughout alpha, beta, open beta, and retail until Yoshida took over. This could very well be the single most ignorant statement made yet. The original game direction was unique and and potentially revolutionary. I really liked where Komoto was taking the game, but facts of it were simply that he & Tanaka blatantly chose to ignore the response of the Beta testers and adjust the content accordingly while delaying the game for at least another year.
I still feel that given the extra year, XIV could have launched with it's original soul intact and offered us all something truly different and fun, instead of the FFXI 2.0 direction it's increasingly headed in. I've been playing FFXI since 2003, and continue to love it, but I don't need a 2nd iteration of it. I want to play FFXIV.
