Has anyone noticed how little elemental resistances matter in this game? There is an entire section dedicated to elemental resistances in our character window but it is undoubtedly the least important stat in the game.

That was just an intro observation. In reality, Eorzean elements are inconsequential across the board. In the case of SMN, we do use Garuda-egi against Titan, but only because of it's abilities and ranged attacks. 9/10 we use Garuda regardless of the element. BLM uses Fire and Ice interchangeably even against Ifrit. Fire... against Ifrit...

Lets take a look at elemental access by job:
SMN - Fire, Wind, Earth, (soon water), plus unaspected
BLM - Fire, Ice, Thunder, plus unaspected
WHM - Wind, Earth, Water

It is pretty plain to see that no job has every element, but I can only assume that SMN at least will have access to all elements in the future. I would hope that as our access to elements expands, we have considerably more potency in our elemental spells against a weaker element. Alternatively I would like to see less potency in elemental spells against a stronger element.

The other element of elements (punny...) that is lacking is our preferred deity that we select at the beginning. Each element has two deities associated with it. I don't remember off hand what the difference in elemental resistances this selection makes at 50, but at 1 it is the difference of 2-3 points. The effect of our guardian deity I would hope would be more prominent at 50.

In the end, I would just like to see some semblance of an elemental wheel. Otherwise we're just firing off spells that resemble an element.
